Good night out! Black Horse, Sidmouth on Sat 3rd Nov 07
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. rated as one of our top reviews I've been wanting to catch up with this band for a while now, but unfortunately I have been gigging on the same nights. 3/5 of my band (Electric Landlady) turned out last Saturday to watch what we'd heard was, by reputation, a fine outfit.

None of us was disappointed! They lived up to our expectations with ease! They played a range of songs from 60's through to modern. I can recall some Doors, Who, U2, Ocean Colour Scene & RHCP amongst others. A small selection but indicative of the type of mix you get. All the songs were quality songs, obviously loved by the band.

The sound was very clear, and at a nice volume, a real refreshing change from quite a lot of bands I've seen recently. The vocalist had a great range and was very convincing when covering classic rock songs in the high registers. The bassist looked at ease all night and the keyboards meshed into the sound very well. The drummer was keeping it all tight and locked in well with the bass. The guitarist had clearly thought through his parts, going for authenticity rather than 'own versions'. This approach was very clear in Led Zep's 'Ramble On'. Any guitarist who brings a particular guitar along just to play it on one specific song is a musician after my own heart!

The mix of songs worked very well and the show culminated with the 'biggies' - Won't get fooled again, She's not there (Santana version) and Hit me with your rhythm stick (complete with sax solo). Without wanting to give advice, I found the synth sound on the Who number to be a little too much of a sustained 'pad' and not punchy enough, but it was excellently played. The guitar could have come a little more to the fore in the second set to drive things along but hey, that's gigging in small venues! The pillar in the middle of the room probably meant the sound varied depending on your position, anyhow. Very, very minor considerations. I really enjoyed my night out. It was a pleasure to hear really good versions of songs that I know so well.

All in all, we agreed that 36FF is the most competent local band we've seen for a long time. You ought to try and catch them! They're all nice people too and this shows in their music.

Hope to see you again soon guys!
Ian (Electric Landlady), Tue 6th Nov 07
Reply from 36FF The Band: Hi Ian , Many thanks for your review. I'm glad you had a good night. It was good fun, if a little tight to fit in. we are back in December, hope you will come and say Hi if you are there Chris
Top entertainment The Crawford, Exeter on Sat 31st Mar 07
The Crawford's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. I love my music and I called into the Crawford last night on the off chance that there might be someone good on. I was at a loose end and was planning to go up into Exeter. I ended up staying!

This band is really something special. They have an amazing singer, and the variety and quality of what they knock out is simply astonishing. The hotel bar was full and everyone was clearly enjoying themselves. I'm a big 'Who' fan, and it's the first time I've ever heard a local band play the 'Real Me'. Took me back.

Stonking!

36FF Grow With Experience! The Phoenix, Exmouth on Sun 3rd Dec 06
The Phoenix's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. rated as one of our top reviews This is the second time that I've subjected myself to the joys of 36FF and again it was a pleasure to find myself in their company. Innuendo aside, they really are a great band with a good varied set list of covers which should please anyone who is broadly of the opinion that chart music at the moment really is rubbish.

This gig presented two new gems that are new to the set list: The Who's "The Real Me" and Zeppelin's "Ramble On". Both were played with a confidence that showed that this band don't let anything out of the door unless they've got it 100% right.

The band themselves have a solid drummer, a bass player who keeps it rolling like a freight train, a guitarist who knows when to play rhythm and when to belt out a cracking lead solo, a singer who can both sing and provide a charismatic front to the band, and a keyboard player who can do Hammond like Deep Purple intended. Best of all, they smile and are clearly enjoying themselves...

I can only see this band getting better over time as their confidence increases so get out there and spend a couple of hours in their company resisting the temptation to sing along!

band for you The Bowling Green, Exeter on Wed 24th May 06
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. On a cold wet night in Exeter, these guys (and one lovely lady) can rock.

i went to see the band twice this weekend once in Shaldon (saw the second set) and once in Exeter (so I could see the first set): good solid quality rock right through.

If you are looking for a good night out, this is the band for you.
