Abakus rock Watford O'Neill's, Watford on Sat 10th Apr 10
It was my first time seeing Abakus at O'Neill's, Watford and they sure rocked, as always! Their set included recently added new numbers, "Use Somebody", "Footloose" and the amazing "Gimme Shelter" plus some lesser heard songs like "Give It Away" and their famed 'disco' set, "Superstition", "Play That Funky Music" and one I can't live without, "Long Train Running".
They blend old and new numbers effortlessly and their set always amazes and surprises, as new songs are always added and old favourites never forgotten and pop up again with great audience appreciation.
My son, Gary, came with me this time and it was his first Abakus experience (him being of the Indie, Trance genre of music) but he absolutely loved them, had a fantastic night and took lots of photos, which hopefully have come out OK and do the boys proud!
Thank you so much as always for yet another night to remember!

wow... and thrice wow The Wagon & Horses, Chesham on Sat 20th Mar 10
This was our first visit to the Wagon & Horses and we were especially delighted to see so many of the folks we are used to seeing at the annual Chesham Beer Festival there - proof positive that the good people of Chesham generously support both local charities and local music.
Amongst the new additions to the Band's repertoire were the Stones' "Not Fade Away"; Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" - you could see that everyone just wanted to kick their shoes off and dance on the tables; a truly scorching version of Queen's "We Will Rock You" had even those of us who are not ardent Queen fans moving, to this one! There was also a brilliantly-executed new ZZ Top number - "La Grange".
The favourites weren't forgotten either - Led Zep's "Rock & Roll", The Cult's "She Sells Sanctuary" were there and we love the way "Funky Music" segues into James Brown's "Sex Machine"... and back!
I guess this music lover has finally learnt to accept that she just doesn't need to understand how these fabulous master musicians manage to make everything they play sound fresh and entirely new each time because that's the beauty and joy of live music; it's all in the moment and the moment is now!
Adam on the bass relentlessly drove the rhythm; Simon thrilled us all with blistering guitar riffs; Jay's inspired vocals did full justice and more to each and every number and then, in response to vociferous demands from the audience, we had... Well, I've listened to Gene Krupa and, back in the day, I saw Buddy Rich live at Hammersmith but Ross's performance on drums, was something else. He made those skins jump, dance and sing!
It was a wonderful evening for us and the pub was packed all night and we loved the atmosphere - we truly appreciate so many venues keeping the music live.

Amazing Abakus - rocked the house The Wagon & Horses, Chesham on Sat 20th Mar 10
This amazing band made their debut at the Wagon & Horses, a small but perfectly formed pub in the centre of Chesham and rocked the house!
They started with one of their newer numbers, Gimme Shelter which sends you to another place - really! They perform everything with total ease and professionalism and are 100% committed to what they do. This set included some new numbers - a rockin' version of ZZ Top's La Grange, a great version of Footloose, showing how they are not afraid to go 'outside the box' to use football terminology! And an absolutely BLISTERING version of Queen's We Will Rock You which just took off and stunned everyone. Simon's guitar licks were out of this world.
Jay, Adam and Ross were stunning as they always are and then, if that weren't enough we were treated to an amazing drum solo by Ross on Led Zep's Rock & Roll which left everyone speechless.
This band never rest on their laurels and aren't afraid to try out new things, from rock to ballads, to soul, disco and so much in between (not country tho - phew, that would be a step too far - for me anyway)!
Go and see them soon wherever they are. However far you travel it WILL be worth it!
