The Barley Sheaf, Liskeard[Live Music Pub]
The Barley SheafNEW..... Free wifi hookup, bring your own laptop.

The Barley Sheaf in Church Street has a rich history as Liskeard's more bohemian pub and leading live music venue. The Barley's ambiance has made it popular with locals, musicians and students alike.

Since taking over the Barley Sheaf in April 2005, landlord Gary Swift, aka Swifty, himself a seasoned entertainer, has striven to enhance the live music experience. Swifty's partner Emma Hill is also an experienced musician, teaching and playing drums and bass. Em is in The Hulas.(Check Em out at
www.myspace.com/thehulas)

Gone are the solo artists and backing track duos of the past, replaced with the cream of Cornwall and Devon's live bands, with an international selection of touring bands to boot. The stage itself has been extended three feet forward and raised six inches, and an impressive house PA complete with monitors and lighting rig has been installed. The beer garden has been turned into a continental style terrace with new extensive decking area, great views over the town roof tops, rockery, and heaters for those chilly nights.

A breath of fresh air The Various Assortments on Thu 4th Jan 07
The Various Assortments's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. rated as one of our top reviews I've had one of Paul's CDs for a while now and it's to my shame I've not seen him live for yonks.

I wasn't disappointed as the Assortments produced a lively, quirky and enjoyable couple of sets - mainly of their own stuff.

For a band that doesn't gig that often they were fairly tight, and any "funky" bits were neatly dealt with.

Could've done with a better vocal sound and overall it was a bit loud (in house p.a. - not the V.A.'s fault) but that didn't spoil the evening which on the whole I would recommend to anyone who's bored of the same old same old.

I'd definitely make the trip to see them again, and it's great to see some imagination on a stage.

Really Rocked Free & Co on Thu 3rd Aug 06
Free & Co's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Free & Co. really rocked at the Barley on Thursday - we thought it was going to be a quiet night because of events in Liskeard that weekend. How wrong we were... the band is simply amazing - I've seen them twice now here and dare I say it, they are getting better all the time.

Hopefully they are coming back here - but I will have to ask the guy in charge.

I am too young to remember the original band Free or Bad Company - but I love their stuff - keep on coming to brighten up Liskeard.

real music at last Free & Co on Thu 18th May 06
Free & Co's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Saw these guys at The Barley and they blew me away with the overall sound of authenticity. A vibe and feel very close to the original, with obvious talent all round.

fm stereo The Wireless on Thu 2nd Feb 06
The Wireless's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. This is probably the best live gig in a pub that I have ever been to! The boys, (long wave, medium wave and short wave... he he) were fantastic, really great fun. They played some of my favourite tunes, Slippery People - Talking Heads, Forever Lost - Magic Numbers, Sound & Vision - Bowie to name a few.

The singer's voice (Short wave) really reminded me of Michael Hutchence from INXS!

The band showcased their new original tune, really impressive.
Helen Johannsen, Fri 3rd Feb 06
Reply from The Wireless: Thanks Helen, nice review Thanks! I think we will be adopting the Long wave , medium and short wave AKAs Ha ha! As for Michael Hutchence...Im sure short wave will be delighted. The new track is called 'Money Doesn't matter anymore', we are about to record it, so we'll keep you posted! Cheers Long wave!

Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page.
