Class act Electric Landlady on Sat 24th Nov 07
Electric Landlady are a fine band with much to be proud about. It would be all too easy for them to sit back and let the set list speak for itself, such is the pedigree that it contains. Yet they deliver the classics with an enthusiasm and passion that is rarely seen on the live circuit. There is quality and energy in the performance and they strike a balance which gives the material a life of its own whilst remaining faithful to the originators. The singer delivers strong vocals and adds guitar which complements rather than competes with the main guitarist. The main guitarist was faithful to the songs and didn't overplay, yet still managed to sound both original and fresh, adding some stunning lines of his own. The bass player was steady throughout and gave a lovely balance to the overall sound of the band. Keyboards were spot on and added both depth and colour to the set. This is the first time I have heard the new drummer and he has lifted the band to another level, he clearly has a good ear and feel for the music coupled with great technique.
So many good songs, but a nod to Humble Pie's version of 'I don't need no doctor' and respectful and gutsy versions of 'Highway to Hell' and 'All Right Now' stood out for me.
When bands often take themselves a bit too seriously, it's nice to be reminded of what live music is about- entertainment.

Reply from Electric Landlady: Why thank you kind sir! All the Landladies are chuffed and tickled to bits with your review Paul; are you sure you were at the same gig as us?!! Hahaha! Joking aside, its great that nice people like yourself post reviews. Thank you very much. Hope to meet you again soon at a 36FF gig!
Good night out! 36FF The Band on Sat 3rd Nov 07
I've been wanting to catch up with this band for a while now, but unfortunately I have been gigging on the same nights. 3/5 of my band (Electric Landlady) turned out last Saturday to watch what we'd heard was, by reputation, a fine outfit.
None of us was disappointed! They lived up to our expectations with ease! They played a range of songs from 60's through to modern. I can recall some Doors, Who, U2, Ocean Colour Scene & RHCP amongst others. A small selection but indicative of the type of mix you get. All the songs were quality songs, obviously loved by the band.
The sound was very clear, and at a nice volume, a real refreshing change from quite a lot of bands I've seen recently. The vocalist had a great range and was very convincing when covering classic rock songs in the high registers. The bassist looked at ease all night and the keyboards meshed into the sound very well. The drummer was keeping it all tight and locked in well with the bass. The guitarist had clearly thought through his parts, going for authenticity rather than 'own versions'. This approach was very clear in Led Zep's 'Ramble On'. Any guitarist who brings a particular guitar along just to play it on one specific song is a musician after my own heart!
The mix of songs worked very well and the show culminated with the 'biggies' - Won't get fooled again, She's not there (Santana version) and Hit me with your rhythm stick (complete with sax solo). Without wanting to give advice, I found the synth sound on the Who number to be a little too much of a sustained 'pad' and not punchy enough, but it was excellently played. The guitar could have come a little more to the fore in the second set to drive things along but hey, that's gigging in small venues! The pillar in the middle of the room probably meant the sound varied depending on your position, anyhow. Very, very minor considerations. I really enjoyed my night out. It was a pleasure to hear really good versions of songs that I know so well.
All in all, we agreed that 36FF is the most competent local band we've seen for a long time. You ought to try and catch them! They're all nice people too and this shows in their music.
Hope to see you again soon guys!

enjoyable Electric Landlady on Sat 29th Sep 07
Went to see what Classic rock served with a smile really means. Now I know! These guys thoroughly enjoy what they do and they do it well. Their enthusiasm shines through. The sound is well rounded what with Bass, two guitars and keyboard to boot.
The audience also enjoyed their show too with rapturous applause and cheering at all the right places!

Amazing! Electric Landlady on Fri 10th Aug 07
This was an unexpected bonus to the end of Sidmouth Folk Week! Whoever booked this 70's rock covers band knew that they would 'hit the spot'.
I haven't seen such a hard-working and competent pub band for ages. They played together very tightly and were appreciated by the packed crowd. I don't know if they have a large local following, but the pub was basically full!
The energy of the front man was infectious and the brilliance of the lead guitarist was humbling. The rhythm section were tight too. I think they said it was the drummer's first gig and to be truthful there were a few unrehearsed endings but otherwise it was a really professional show.
The set list was inspired! It seemed that they had lifted the track listing of "The best 70's album in the World, ever....". I've never known a crowd be more ready for each and every song!
My personal favourites of the night were Fleetwood Mac's "Go your own way" and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" both of which included show-stopping guitar solos. The crowd singalong to "Stairway to heaven" was also fun, although the rendition could have been a bit tighter. The doubleneck guitar looked good though! I also loved Led Zeppelin's Rock & Roll that they played as an encore.
To sum up, they played really well, had the crowd eating out of the palms of their hands and sounded like 70's rock should! They ain't young but they seem to know the music inside out!
I really enjoyed my last night in Sidmouth. I hope to see them next year!

Reply from Electric Landlady: Thanks for taking the time to review us! We really enjoyed playing our first gig with Scott, our new drummer, (after a single rehearsal). We are really looking forward to consolidating our set and working on new material.
The audience reaction was awesome. It was us who were humbled by all the feedback on the night. Everytime we finished a song it seemed that a 'sonic shock wave of approval' hit us! You guys were really up for a good time! Thanks.
Take care, see you next year!
