That's entertainment Lansdowne Hotel, Dawlish on Sat 8th Dec 07
I went to the Lansdowne because someone told me the Buzzcocks were playing... of course, this was not the Buzzcocks but a band with the same kind of vibrancy and connection. It is great to see a guitarist looking as if he is enjoying himself... have you noticed that bands always seem to stick with the same stage layout... I wish one day someone would put the drummer out the front... after all the drummer often holds the band together and the guitar guys often look around to check when to end the song. Anyway these guys did manage to swap beards in mid song which added a bit of variation. [We suspect this may be subject to opinion - Ed]
If you want to have a good night out give these guys a whirl, but don't be restricted by the traditional restraint that is characteristic of this sceptered Isle. Pogoing may be considered anachronistic but it is very good for the figure. My only reservation is that they finished up with the old Sex Pistols' number "God Save the Queen" followed by Greenday's "American Idiot", both of which satirise modern politics in a negative context... it is depressing to consider how out of touch our politicians are... thank god for rock and roll and punk.
Give the BobKatZ a whirl... sadly like many other rockers Lee Brillaux is no longer with us... but this band carries on the tradition.

Scorchio! The Redwing Inn, Lympstone on Fri 29th Jun 07
The Redwing is well renowned for hot and happening gigs, but some just exceed all expectations!
Despite the 'katz feeling that they were a little off the boil (slack) compared to their usual performances, this gig had the same feel about it as New Years Eve! The venue was packed and as usual very hot, the crowd danced all night and the boys barely paused between songs.
They have successfully brought back some numbers into the set, and start the evening as they mean to go on, with a gritty grinding version of 'Should I stay or should I go'. A good mixing up of their current set list is enough to keep the regulars interested and entertained and no break in transmission for the landlord this time (aahhh!).
This band have a big sound, and big fun, even when things go slightly wrong, it's all dealt with in a good humoured way.
Exceptional guitar/bass playing, and a masterclass in precision percussion, keeps the excitement levels up for the whole night; anyone who hasn't seen them yet - you really should!
Meltdown expected, I'll say! Encores called for, and given (amid yells of 'play another set').
They should be very pleased with themselves for giving a pub full of people a very, very good time.

Cornered! The Coaching House, Chudleigh on Sat 9th Jun 07
The four kitties were back where it all began again, sporting a refreshed set list and some fancy lights.
This pub is vast so it's a bit tricky to judge how the gig is going, beyond our little corner; but we could hear applause from various directions.
The guys brought back some favourites into the set kicking off with 'Should I stay or should I go'. 'Ziggy' was back along with 'Suffragette City' and 'Pretty green' plus the regular numbers were jiggied about a bit. When you have developed a really strong set you can only really change a few things at a time.
But (what's this) no Dr Feelgood (shock horror), and Martin deprived of giving his new harp an outing too. Anyway the guys worked up a sweat and just before the witching hour the gig was closed with 'I bet that you look good on the dancefloor' and the ever popular 'Basket case'.
As always the set was delivered with great musicianship and a good deal of band humour; you just know these guys love what they do.

Kool for Katz! The Redwing Inn, Lympstone on Fri 25th May 07
More like hot kitties!
Yet another rockin' gig at the little red house with the big heart and soul. These four fine musicians richly deserve their full diary.
Having the luxury of 3 very different vocalists, frontman and driving bass player Nick Thorman; 2 lead guitarists - the Zebedee like Jim Saunders and talented singer/songwriter Martin Weller of Crush UK all able to bring an authenticity and professionalism to the diverse set, backed up by (yes he does smile) rocksteady rhythm king Stewart White on drums - THESE BOYZ WORK!
We are introduced to all 3 in turn starting with 'Molly's Chambers' (Kings Of Leon) featuring Nick; a stunning 'Jean Genie' with Jim on lead vocal and Martin giving his all on lead guitar; then Martin surpasses his namesake with a storming version of the mighty Paul Weller's 'A Bomb' threatening to take the roof off with the apocalypse and Stewart kicks things off with a heart thumping floor tom for a full speed 'Paint It Black' Along with 'Lazin' On A Sunny Afternoon', 'Psycho Killer' and T.Rex's 'Get It On' amongst others, the first set is drawn to a close with the bordering on camp (especially Martin) 'Rockin' Robin' and the very danceable 'Roxette' (Dr.Feelgood) both numbers seeing Martin switch instruments and showing himself to be a pretty good harp player, thanks in part i gather to some expert tuition from Exmouth's Nigel Bradford.
We are lead gently into the second set by Jim with the Chilli's 'Under The Bridge', then we are away again with 'London Calling', 'Blitzkreig Bop' and the rarely covered 'Tube Station' featuring a terrific middle flourish from the skin basher (we worship at the altar of St.Kit). The joint is jumping for 'I Predict a Riot' and a bit of audience participation is called for as Nick does 'White Wedding', the guys stop dead leaving the crowd to do the last "start again".
We are given a rock history lesson with 'Keep on Rockin' in The Free World' then its bang up to date with the now perfected 'I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor' and Green Day's 'Basket Case'. All this (and more) around choreographed refreshment taking (3 songs & a swig) then its the landlords pleasure as he joins the guys and squeezes out 'The Kids Are Alright'. Normal service is resumed as the crowd yell for more and we get a tribute to the now 30 year old 'God Save The Queen' a sexy 'All Day And All Of The Night' and the night is finished with the fabulously timeless 'Teenage Kicks'
I have been an avid Kat lover since gig one and having known Martin for the best part of 10 years it has been a pleasure to watch this band gel; I look forward to some more material being introduced... I am sure it will be worth the wait.

[Fri 25th May 07] We were delighted with the tur... We were delighted with the turn out and response at the Bowling Green, Exeter last night.
Despite Jim's weariness from the 9 to 5 and Nick T deciding to play the first set backwards we had a great night.
The BG has suffered along with the bands that have been booked and cancelled there over the last ten years that I have been aware of the place and sadly once more the place is dropping live music.
It's a shame, but that's life and we were glad to get another shot thanks to Michelle.
See you at the Crawford fingers crossed ;) | [Wed 21st Feb 07] Catch the 'KatZ doin' it live ... Catch the 'KatZ doin' it live in Chard this Thursday

Ali | [Mon 12th Feb 07] PUSSY GALORE
This coming week... PUSSY GALORE
This coming weekend end marks a year in the life of Devon's top Pop, Punk, R&B covers outfit the BobKatZ.
The BobKatZ feature: Martin Weller Lead vocals, guitars; Nick Thorman Lead vocals, bass guitar; Jim Saunders Lead vocals, guitars; Stewart White Drums.
Martin, Jim, Nick and Stewart formed The BobKatZ in February 2006.
Martin and Nick were introduced by Ray Martin, the guvnor at the Lansdowne, Dawlish where their rival bands The OtherZ and CRUSH UK were playing. A year on they continue to enjoy a love/hate relationship :)
Martin says "Our first gig was at the Old Coaching House, Chudleigh, but our first anniversary falls (give or take a day) on this Saturday 17th February 2007 at the Lansdowne so pretty apt really."
The BobKatZ feature three lead singers with very different voices and styles and excel at playing high energy pop, punk and R&B with attitude.
"We have developed a set of songs that incorporates all our tastes and that means the delivery is convincing because we do not just 'go through the motions'. We love what we do and in particular 'The Jam' numbers we cover really pack a punch. 'Down in the tube station at midnight' feels like my theme tune" said Martin.
We also do mean versions of songs by: Ramones, Clash, Chili Peppers, Dr Feelgood & Green Day.
The band is already booked to perform 50 gigs this year which shows their commitment and how much they enjoy playing - gig and booking details can be found at www.lemonrock.com/bobkatz
"We would all like to thank folks in the local media plus our amazing fans whose support keeps us going as well as our over inflated egos of course :)"
Catch the 'KatZ this weekend:
Friday 16th February @ Ferryboat Inn, Shaldon TQ14 0DL 01626 872340
Saturday 17th February @ Lansdowne, Dawlish EX7 9LQ 01626 863201 @ 9.45pm | [Tue 30th Jan 07] Hi everyone.
Well despite Bil... Hi everyone.
Well despite Billy Katfish's two partially severed fingers the BobKatZ will be making their first appearance of 2007 this weekend 2nd & 3rd Feb. in Taunton and Chudleigh respectively.
It was touch and go there for a while, but we will play in our usual four-piece format :)
So here's hoping you can join us - the best punk, pop and R&B band in the South West - for a great night's entertainment.
