Deaf Shepherd[Rock Covers & Original, 4 piece]
Get the Flash Player to see these images.
A mix of covers from St Albans' finest semi-acoustic band. Great renditions of early Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull and 60's 70's 80's 90's & even naughties popular covers served with a good dollop of folk/blues-rock and a tangy side-salad of the Legend's most esoteric collection of weird instruments. The sheps are:- Steve Townsend- electric plank of plastic with strings, vocals Gavin Attewell- bass plank of wood with strings, vocals Dave Lewis- tubs that are thumped Chuck Silverman-wrong planet ,lots of planks of wood with too many strings

Musical Supremacy on Sat 19th Jan 08
What a fabulous Birthday celebration we had entertained by Deaf Shepherd. The band were nothing short of "Pure Genius Talent". We loved 'Wish you were here". Steve's vocals and guitar work are simply awesome. Chuck's array of instruments never fails to impress. Dave's drum work is outstanding. Gavin's vocals on the rendition of 'Stairway to Heaven' are just mesmerizing and his bass playing superb. It was a fantastic night with memories to treasure. Many thanks guys.

Shepherds Rock... The Six Bells, St Albans on Fri 18th Jan 08
... not an ailing rural Building Society but rather a frequently-observed and lovable phenomenon which takes place around St Albans, Herts. Last night they were in traditional British timbered pub The Six Bells, all real ales and gorgeous barmaids - ok, not so traditional then - on the banks of the Ver where some people barely have two hundred thousand or so to rub together - but they are very nice people nonetheless.
The Sheps are one of the mainstays of the local pub music scene, gigging voraciously all year... a four-headed rock jukebox dispensing Fleetwood Mac (old and older), REM, AC/DC, Floyd, Tull, Peppers, Free, Zep, and small but very golden nuggets like Handbags and Gladrags, and May You Never (John Martyn - had you forgotten how much you like that?). They always had a communication problem, because only singer/guitarist Steve was not called Dave, so one Dave chose the obvious alternative - "Chuck" - well he is on the wrong planet - and another emigrated, which may seem a bit extreme but it made way for guitarist Gavin ("Gavin") to take up electric bass, a highly successful move because he plays tunes with it instead of standing in a corner going Thump. He also sings Stairway to Heaven and has a very melodious voice, which you don't expect from a bearded bear-looking bloke. Non-bearded bear-looking bloke Steve slips naturally and without mimicry into the vocal styles of the original singers. Class fool/other-worlder Chuck does lots of filling and fiddly bits with an array of.. um... things from his planet.
Occasionally-bearded bearish Dave, by elimination (of the other Daves) must be the excellent drummer and, blow me, the others actually listen to him, so he must be good.
Steve's missus sang one number, which was not an indulgence. She has a good voice. I didn't catch her name but I know what it wasn't.
The throwaway musical high spot of the evening for me was BOC - Death Don't Fear the Reaper - which they slipped in third. Such a breath of fresh air, just like the original was when it came out. Cruelly short, though - could you play it twice?

Great night out Stopsley Common Sports Club, Luton on Sat 10th Nov 07
Great night out was had by all, thanks to all the band members. Great band, who know how to rock. Guitar playing was awesome. Played a selection of covers that we all enjoyed. My daughter is only 9 and she loved them all too, even though she didn't know most of them. Red Hot Chilli peppers - California was a credit to the original and the final AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Do WHAT to the Farrier? The Rose & Crown, St Albans on Sat 16th Jun 07
What do you expect from a Sheps gig? Let's see...
1). Busy? Check. - the pub was heaving...
2). Hot? Check. - not a dry garment in the house
3). Loud? Pardon? Would someone please pick up that phone!
4). Seriously quality rock covers, delivered with energy and humour? Most certainly.
The band are, without doubt, on top form and a force to be reckoned with. The addition of some new material was great to hear and the songs fitted in perfectly to being 'shepherdized'.
If anyone is in any doubt about the quality of the Herts music scene, this lot prove that we are truly lucky to be able to nip down the local boozer and catch such quality musicianship, all for the price of a shandy or two.
The Rose and Crown should be applauded too, whilst not every pub can sustain a band as loud (or as popular) as the Sheps, the staff were superb as usual and getting a drink was no problem at all - we all needed it, as it was HOT in there!
