80's Band Takes Me Back! The Red Lion, Biggleswade on Sat 12th Apr 08
Had a fab night at The Red Lion in Biggleswade being thoroughly entertained by Ellie Dee! The band seemed to really enjoy themselves which came across in their performance, as well as their sense of humour!
Not your typically cheesy 80's cover band, Ellie Dee covered some great artists like The Jam, Blondie, Gary Numan, David Bowie, XTC and loads more. My mate and I sang along to quite a few of the tracks and had there been a bit more room (and if I hadn't been driving and on the Diet Coke!) we would have joined some of the other groovers on the dance floor! Particulary enjoyed Start and That's Entertainment by The Jam, Madonnas Material Girl and Beautiful Souths A Little Time
The only down side is that I am now trawling my wardrobe for a Ra Ra skirt and dashing to Boots for pink eyeshadow and blue mascara!!!
Had I known about this band last year I would have seriously considered booking them for my Husbands 40th. Instead we shall wait for another local gig to come around so I can take him along, he will love it!

Reply from Ellie Dee: Thats very kind words thank you very much. We enjoyed this gig too, everyone was up for a great night. And as for our sense of humour, well i think its because we are all gret friends in this band and love performing. As for the wardrobe please please come next time dressed in Ra Ra skirts. Thanks again from all of us Mick, Andrew, Keith, Sonia & Barry
Ellie Dee sum up the 80s in style! Lisa's Bar, Hatfield on Thu 3rd Apr 08
Ellie Dee played a great selection of 80s music last night at Lisa's Bar, and brought back some great memories.
The band members are all good players who play with a lot of enthusiasm and sense of fun, which brought plenty of smiles to the faces of the audience members. I really enjoyed myself.
The only problem was that the audience was rather small... when I walked in I raised the crowd by almost ten percent. Lisa's is a great venue, with a good stage and lighting, and reasonably priced beer. The landlord is a really nice guy who is trying hard (and losing cash) to promote live music. He, and the bands who play there, deserve some support, so I hope a few more people will turn off their TVs and computers and go out on a Thursday night to see a band.
| Julian Carter, Fri 4th Apr 08 | |
Reply from Ellie Dee: Thanks Julian i was great to catch up with you again, and to play you a Gary Numan Number!!. Your right about Lisa's Bar the landlord is trying to make this all work and its a shame that there are people out there, that like live music but never go and see any. This club is a great place to play i just hope it carrys on and we get another chance to play there. Cheers Keith.
excellent gig The Crown, Litlington on Fri 15th Feb 08
Everyone enjoyed themselves at this excellent gig: band, staff and customers alike.
The songs played all went down very well (from George Michael to XTC). An early quiet period before the customers warmed up was replaced by calls for more by the end. Nice to see some band followers travelling to our establishment because of the band. All were welcome.
An impromptu dance floor was set up as required, the impromptu Madness number went down a storm and they even had guest vocalists (thanks DW).
Hopefully all bands will go down as well as Ellie Dee at The Crown. We will be booking again.

Reply from Ellie Dee: Thank-you Steve we all enjoyed this gig it was great to see everyone singing along with us. And as for the Madness track we have never even played that one before together. Thanks again Steve looking forward to a return trip
80s Band with a difference The Plough & Harrow, Harpenden on Sat 5th Jan 08
We all had a fantastic night at the Plough and Harrow. It was the band's first time here but the audience was enthusiastic and very receptive. The set has a good mix of numbers and they are mostly well known. Having a male and a female singer gives lots of scope for a variety of styles.
Keith is great at the front and is enthusiastic and full of energy. His voice is just right for 80s music and sounds particularly good on Cockney Rebel, Jam, XTC and of course Gary Numan.
Sonia has an amazing voice and sings a range of different styles including Blondie, Cyndi Lauper and Joni Mitchell. She sounds really great in the Pretenders' "Brass in Pocket" and in Madonna's Material Girl.
Both singers also work very well together. Their versions of "It takes a little time" (Beautiful South) and "Billie Jean" (Michael Jackson) are excellent.
All the musicians in the band are very talented. The bass really stands out in this band making the music really punchy while the drums give a good solid foundation and lots of energy to the overall sound. The guitarist produces a raunchy feel and makes the sound very full.

Reply from Ellie Dee: Hello Jade we are so glad you enjoyed our band. The plough & Harrow was a great pub to play. Lots of punters & if im not mistaken we had about 4 or 5 songs dedicated to birthdays, engagements and various other special occasions. We had a great time there and thank you so much for your comments the band are well chuffed. Hope to see you the next time we play. Keith

| Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
