Loadsa good work for charity mate Kiss This! on Fri 16th Nov 07
I had the pleasure of checking out Kiss This for the first time at Exeter Cathedral. Hats off to the sound guys for providing great sound in a difficult but awesome setting.
The band began the evening as backing to Johnny Dean whose arrival on stage was superb, a "wild thing" he certainly is/ was tiz woz!. He blasted his way through the set with tons of energy and really got the crowd going.
An then on came the headline act Kiss This and blew me away with a great set of hits, performed with absolute precision. With a tight rhythm section and great keys and guitar the band provided the perfect platform for a fantastic vocal performance. The two voices really complemented each other, and both delivered powerfully, with presence and full of energy, and got the place bouncing. The crowd loving hits by Queen, Elton John, Blur, Madness and many more the dance floor filled and stayed full.
There was a fantastic atmosphere about the place, everyone had a great time raising a huge amount of money for a very worthy cause (Children in Need). Let's hope we don't have to wait another 1000 years to get Exeter Cathedral rocking again!
Marnie were great too! | |

Kiss This! on Fri 16th Nov 07
Marnie started the night with an excellent set. The cathedral suited the acoustic guitar and her powerful voice as if it had been built for them.
Then comes the dean, worth the admission price on its own. If only all front men had as much drive and energy on stage. An accomplished performance for a man well out of his "comfort zone".
Then the finale: KISS THIS. I doubt the cathedral has ever witnessed such a sight in its 1000 years. The sound man did an excellent job balancing everything in what must have been a nightmare venue for him.
Three songs in, the dancing is started by no other than "Johnny Dean" and for the rest of the gig the aisle and center of the cathedral is packed with as an eclectic mix of dancers as you will ever see; bikers and parishioners dancing side by side!
An awesome performance that can hopefully be repeated as it raised money for a good cause and could grow year on year.

Fabulous night at the Cathedral Marnie on Fri 16th Nov 07
A truly magnificent performance all in aid of Children In Need. Marnie opened with a selection of covers and their originals. The amplified acoustic guitar sounded rich and mellow and Marnie's voice exploited the superb sound system to the full. Her vocal range was impressive, particularly in 'Wuthering Heights' (Kate Bush) and 'Lost And Found' (Marnie & Paul).
They often perform in busy pubs where their quality is lost in the noise. How nice to see and hear them in a concert setting where their quality sound shone through.
