Great, funky band Grooveshack on Fri 5th Oct 07
Grooveshack's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. This band played some great music. Disco and soul classics. Good to dance to and good to listen to. Solid rhythm section. The drummer reminded me of Dennis Elliot - praise indeed. Highly enjoyable evening. One criticism - can you provide a mini-stage for the singer. She looked lost among the mike stands and speaker cabs. She's great and we want to see more of her. Crowded bar but quick service and good beer. Reasonably priced. Also many thanks to the big guy who brought round the excellent sandwiches.

Totally enjoyable gig! Fridge Magnates on Fri 2nd Feb 07
Fridge Magnates's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. rated as one of our top reviews I really enjoyed seeing The Fridge Magnates at The Fairway last night. They're a proper band, with good players and three lead singers. The vocal variety and three-part harmonies were excellent, and I can't remember the last time I saw a band with decent harmonies, so I enjoyed this. The playing was good and tight too, with Paul and Dave pushing everything along nicely, and some tasty playing on guitars from Martin and John.

The most impressive bit (apart from Dave's rather nice silver-sparkle DW kit [drum kit! - Ed], which looked and sounded fantastic!) was the sheer variety of excellent songs in the Magnates' sets, everything from The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Police, Oasis, and Cream, to The Stones, Monkees, T.Rex and... a wonderful version of Prince's Kiss, sung in falsetto by bassist Paul. Excellent!

The band aim themselves at a wide cross-section of music fans, and I think they do it well.

Go and see them.

Reply from Fridge Magnates: Thanks for that Julian! Martin & I would be the first to admit that John's the only "real" singer in FM, but that hasn't stopped the two of us from having a go at fronting a few well-suited numbers. We tend to have a fairly basic setup & sound, but I think it's part of the attraction of a live band, not sounding too produced. We're "modernising" our set with Kaiser Chiefs and Green Day, but the "oldies" always go down well. Anyway, great to meet you there and thanks for the review! Paul
Rockin'! XL on Fri 19th May 06
XL's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. A fantastic night, a very good range of music, and they had the place jumpin' ! I'll definitely be back for more!

Tiger Tom! Tom Jones Tribute Act on Fri 3rd Mar 06
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. I thought Billy Lee was a great soundalike, but the curly wig was a bit dodgy - looked a bit like Burt Reynolds in a bathing cap. Overall the sound was good but wasn't matched by the look - but then Tom is a hard act to follow.

Please consider the environment before printing this flyer.
Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page.
