Fabulous Live Music sets every Sunday Lunchtime in an historic venue thats worth a visit. Established 20 years ago, The Museum is a group of buildings which was once part of a medieval estate, with the oldest part, The Tithe Barn, being 500 years old this year. The Museum also houses changing exhibitions of local historical interest, and hosts a May Day celebration each year. Sunday Lunchtime Music is an established part of the Museum's popularity. Rain rain go away Barry Reeves on Sun 26th Nov 06
On a wet Sunday lunchtime I wandered into the park in Harrow where sits the restored barn. As I got closer to the entrance hoping to buy a cup of coffee inside I heard the sound of Robert Johnson's 'Sweet Home Chicago' played with soaring bottleneck guitar and sung with an invitational voice which was almost seductive. This at lunch time too! Thus I first heard Barry Reeves.
Considering the total lack of advertising of events at the Heritage Centre at this time, 15 people on a soggy Sunday was no more than could be expected for his 90 minute set. But nobody left, a few people wandered in out of the rain and stayed, and when he asked if he could continue a little after the official 2pm closing time the staff readily agreed! By this time there were 20 people listening.
He writes most of his own songs which go from the angry hurt lover 'Natalie' which is pure rock and roll; Sleep in Peace and Beauty, a folk style love song (or adult lullaby as he calls it) and What Do You Think We Get Elected For? which he played as a folk blues with a bottleneck solo. The suggestion that people today get elected to fight wars seems fair enough to me.
We had a friendly chat at the end of the gig and I've used my notes for this review. A charming man who deserves better than a wet November lunchtime to play his music.

| Print Flyers | |
|
|
|
| Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
| Flyers limited to 14 days. Get longer flyers by joining Lemonrock - FREE Music Lover membership! | |
