Happy new year! Scared Stiff ! on Mon 31st Dec 07
This was the first New Year's Eve/Day gig I had been to with Scared Stiff and wasn't too sure what to expect!
The guys were on top form and the audience (which seemed to ebb and flow during the course of the evening as groups came and went on their city pub crawl) really seemed to be enjoying the music and were very quickly up and dancing and asking for the band "more"!
I think the band played through just about their whole repertoire during the evening (at least once!) Jumping Jack Flash is one of their newer numbers and every time they play it, it just seems to get better and better! Mustang Sally and Black Night are always crowd pleasers and some of my favourites of the evening were Steady As She Goes (By the Raconteurs) and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (By the Animals).
There were plenty of us there to make it a worthwhile and memorable event and I for one can't think of a better way to have end one year and begin the next!
Thanks for making wonderful music guys and Happy New Year to you all!

Raw Entertainment Scrabblebag on Sat 3rd Mar 07
These guys are really deceiving on first appearance, sort of leaving you wondering if you should seek a quiet spot to sink the real ale or hang about and hope. They have a following and that encourages you to hang about. I'm pleased I hung in because they soon warmed up to give an evening of raw entertainment. This is not a meant to be disparaging, because the singer Chris has a sort of raw voice, as does Johnny Cash. He also has what it takes to entertain, performing a wide variety of styles and artists. I presume he doesn't try to mimic the voice of the original artists; it comes out his way and works well. The pair were obviously enjoying their performance as much as the friends and customers. You just don't expect something from Jungle Book to pop up and entertain you out of the blue with the cello player (apology for forgetting your name) who was quietly performing in the background, suddenly becoming an ace comedian. I am not going to attempt trying to explain that, you have to see it for yourself.
Thanks also to the enterprising management that salvaged the Jolly Porter from extinction to become an excellent venue for real ale and real music. I'm looking forward to seeing Scrabblebag on Saturday June 2nd 2007.

I spilt beer on a stranger! GeekChic on Sat 25th Nov 06
The boys of GeekChic put on a slick, energetic, punky and totally rocking show. I was so impressed as I looked around at the packed out room, that over the course of their funky punky pop riot not a foot was left un-tapped, an air guitar unstrummed and the shouted sing- alongs from everyone in there, whether 20 or 60, are testament to the quality of the songs they covered. The Geeks chicly took us through an evening of tunes from the sixties right through 'til now, carefully selected, brilliantly executed, these boys had us jumping around somewhat in spite of ourselves. The combination of infectious guitar lines, top quality drumming, funky bass riffs and an unstoppable jack-in-the-box front man with some serious vocal talent, had me swilling back my Doom Bar and getting my groove on as if I'd come there fresh from a good night's sleep and exhilarating walk in the countryside! Full of energy, talent, chic, geeks and songs that you wish you heard more often; a night out with GeekChic is not to be missed.

Reoffenders Riot! The Reoffenders on Sat 4th Nov 06
We had a really great night! The music was spot on - lots of well known 'soft' punk, i.e. Blondie, Buzzcocks as well as the Pistols and Clash etc. Also some speedier/louder versions of well known favourites - Rocket Man has never sounded so good!
These guys have so much energy - they never stop pogoing! A special mention has to go to the lead singer who for sheer entertainment value gets 10/10. He was talented and funny and really got the crowd going.
I recommend you try to catch a gig. I guarantee you will want a repeat performance.

| Print Flyers | |
|
|
|
| Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
