| J. Starck (Singer / Songwriter / Guitarist) at The Boot, St Albans Now St Albans Centre's most popular music night, Tuesday Night Music Club at The Boot provides a great atmosphere, amazing artists, both local as well as international, with a lot of humour added in.
Paul hosts the evenings, often with 5 or more other performers and offers the opportunity for one or two open mic'ers who are always made to feel welcome by the friendly and appreciative crowds.
Styles of music range from original compositions, contemporary acoustic, rock and folk, to classics including Lennon, Dylan, Eva Cassidy, Paul Simon and so on.
The Boot is a lovely 16th Century Inn, sitting just under the famous clock tower in the market place, offering an amazing range of real ales, lagers and an excellent wine list.
Entrance is free and the bar is open until midnight, come along and experience some wonderful talent. 8pm - 11pm (regular: every Tuesday) Unmissable, the biggest music night in town!! |

 What?... The White Lion, St Albans on Tue 14th Jun 05 | |
  was this? Not only were we treated to some of the best acoustic singer/songwriter songs in the whole of pubdom, but half way through the set the confidently modest, modestly confident, always approachable Mr Starck turns into a pianoforte genius. It is very rare to find guitarists - musical guitarists at that - turning their hand to piano, let alone silence a venue with a concert-quality performance. Elton John's classic 'Benny and the Jets' rang out its chunky piano and groovy bass (bloke on bass was great by the way) as if I was playing the 1974 double album in my own living room on my old Trio turntable: remarkable. Give us more of this!

 Tonight's performance at the Maltings showed why J.Starck is no chancer. Far from it; he engages the audience with confidence not cockiness, beginning the stories that the songs finish.
His sound is distinctive, yet the songs are by no means the same. The set picks you up, sends you down, and even slaps you round the face, but dull it isn't. Emotions are on open display, from Starck's heartfelt vocal to lyrics that connect with you rather than fill spaces in the music. His charismatic stage presence only enhances the experience - approachable and human... you can't help liking this guy!
Don't wait for me to convince you; judge for yourself, and just remember where you saw him first! | |
