Julian Carter[Blues Rock, Solo Artist] Based: Knebworth
Get the Flash Player to see these images.
Julian Carter is a professional guitarist and vocalist. He has played and recorded with many first-class bands, and is now available as a fully self-contained solo act (and as a trio "Blind Drunk Jules"), ideal for private parties, pubs, clubs and functions.
Julian performs well known Blues and Rock songs from the 60's to the 90's, (Santana, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Steely Dan, SRV, Oasis, Dire Straits, The Eagles, Paul Weller, Pink Floyd, Eric Johnson, Brian Adams etc.). His fluid live guitar work and punchy live vocals combine with excellent quality live-recorded backing tracks (a six hour repertoire!) to give that live gig experience in any venue, however large or small. A PA system of Hi Fi quality and professional stage lights complete the mix.
Julian also conducts in-store clinics/demos for Paul Reed Smith guitars, on behalf of Headline Music. "Julian, you're a f*****g great guitar player, thank you for all your care and help, much appreciated" - Paul Reed Smith.
30 years ago Julian (who is older than he looks, sadly!) was in a band called Stallion, playing progressive rock. An album of Stallion's music has finally been released, on 2/10/07, and is available for sale on www.amazon.co.uk . Go to www.myspace.com/stallionuk for the full story and some mp3s, old pictures etc. It's interesting

Vocal Harmonies The Rivermill Tavern, Eaton Socon on Wed 9th Jan 08
It has been a year since I last saw Julian do his solo gig and it was great to catch up with him again. Julian will always play a song for you if he knows it so I kept shouting them out: The White Room, Changing Man and Hey Joe, just to name a few. Julian had a chat with me during the break and has a new toy which brings out harmonies to his songs, what fun! It sounds great. So apart from the beer being £3.20 a pint (although the landlord did give us back 20p) it was fun to see Julian again - he really is a great guitar player, the best I have ever seen or played with.

Reply from Julian Carter: Thanks Keith, it was good to see you too.
I wish you and Mick good luck with the new band, and hope to get to one of your gigs one day soon.
Cheers mate,
Jules. | |
Datchworth success Datchworth Sports Club, Datchworth on Fri 26th Oct 07
Having bumped into Julian at an outside gig at the Sports Club in Datchworth I asked him if he fancied having a gig at our club and thankfully he obliged us with his presence on Friday night (26/10/07). To say he knows his stuff is an understatement. Albeit we could have had some more members down to appreciate the quality of Julian's performance it has to be said that he really rocked us and blues us out. Absolutely fantastic, everybody had a great time and all being well he has agreed to come back soon. Thanks for a great night Jules.
| Julian Calvert, Sun 28th Oct 07 | |
Reply from Julian Carter: Thank you Julian.
I enjoyed the evening, and I thought the audience was pretty good and very appreciative. It'll get better as the word spreads, and I wish you well with future gigs.
I look forward to seeing you all again on December 7th (TBC).
Cheers,
Jules. | |
rock on The Shephall Centre, Stevenage on Sat 6th Jan 07
Jules has a top voice and is skilled on the six string playing some great blues and rock. But the base guitarist (why does his guitar have so many stings or was I seeing double) while totally competent doesn't know any Deep Purple but still managed to knock out Smoke on the Water to silence my heckling. Thanks for a great night.

Reply from Julian Carter: Thanks JJ for the compliments re voice and guitar, but I think you're having flashbacks!
My gig at The Shephall Centre was a solo gig. The gig where we played Smoke On The Water as a request and my 6-string bassist didn't really know it, was at The Sailor in Hitchin a few weeks ago.
I remember meeting somebody at The Shephall who had seen the band, this must have been you. Hope to see you again soon.

Great Night The Rifle Butt, Northampton on Sat 7th Oct 06
I have known Julian for 2-3 years now and jammed with him a couple of times, but this was the first time I have ever seen him do a gig. Well what can I say? First of all, he has a tremendous repertoire of material ranging from my era, the 60's to the more modern stuff.
Last night he played a mix of Eric Clapton, Santana, Gary Moore, Dire Straits, Steely Dan, Jimi Hendrix & Cream. He also did a couple of blues standards, which were for my benefit as I joined him on guitar and harmonica.
Julian is a great guitarist and vocalist, who has been graced with the gift of the gab. By this I mean he communicates extremely well with the audience. He told the audience he would take requests throughout the evening. This he did well, and I think there were only a couple of songs he couldn't do. Those he couldn't do were often substituted by another from the same artist. He managed to do a Dire Straits song that he said he hadn't done for years. Sounded great to me and the people who requested it.
Every part of his show, last night, was that of a professional musician. His equipment is first class and he also has stage lights, which I must admit I thought, when he set up, was over the top. However, when he started I immediately saw the benefit. It just looked right. The sound quality from his PA was superb. The speakers look small, but they don't half pack a punch.
He used two guitars last night, a PRS Hollowbody and a guitar he had built for him, that looked a bit like a Strat. Both sounded superb through whatever pedalboard he was using and his Marshall amp & cabinet. I was a bit wary when Julian invited me up for a couple of numbers. First he is a far better guitarist than I am and secondly his pedalboard looked ever so daunting to an old chap like me. I needn't have been concerned as I thought my guitar sounded great through his equipment and our styles seemed to blend well. Anyway I enjoyed myself, which was the important thing.
The only slightly down part of the night was the poor attendance. The pub has recently been taken over and this was only the third music evening they have put on. The Rifle Butt is a great place for performers. The 'stage' area is better than most I play in and the room is quite large and not too smoky. This place needs to carry on presenting Live Music. Those in the area need to ensure this happens, by attending events.
Those that were there last night were treated to a performance by an extremely accomplished musician. Go and see Julian if he is your area. We who were there had a great night.
| John Reardon, Sun 8th Oct 06 | |
Reply from Julian Carter: Thanks John,
It was great to see you, and I enjoyed our jam. And your kind words make me blush!
I'm glad you had a good time, and I did too, but it was a shame that more people weren't there. I've played this venue before to much larger audiences, so maybe the football on the tele was to blame. Oh well, maybe next time!
Incidently, the Strat was made for me by Ashley Pangborn in 1982. It now has PRS Dragon2 pickups on it, with a 5-way rotary selector. It's a great guitar.

| | Sandra Grant "She'll Blow Your Mind With Jazz In Blues"
This is really an album by Sandra Grant, with Blind Drunk Jules (Julian Carter on guitar) as her backing band, particularly "Fingerz" Carty who played bass, keyboards, and guitar, as well as producing the album. He did a great job, it sounds really good. Sandra Grant wrote the songs. She also sang, played alto & tenor sax, and flute. |
