More Gravy Goodness The Redwing Inn, Lympstone on Fri 2nd Nov 07
Another helping of the Gravy at The Redwing gave an enjoyable evening - the lads seem to be working hard on their set with new numbers scattered throughout the set.
The 1st set was good though a little overpowering on the lead guitar for me, and once warmed up was as good as always.
The sound was balanced better in the 2nd set and just continued to get better and better.
For me - yet again (sorry!) - the absolute stonker of the night was The Rolling Stones 'You Can't Always Get What You Want', without a doubt the best number for me due to the absolute superb guitar work by new Gravy'er Kevin.
It seems that while the lads are as good as always at thumping out the old blues standards they really excel in the more 'melodical' numbers - if that makes any sense! Often their best numbers are those which I wouldn't expect, and their talent shines through.
I've thought for a while now that the Gravy have evolved post Paddy into a much more balanced band - the new numbers played prove this for me.
Apparently their hoping for more gigs - and they deserve them. If you've not seen them yet - wake up and smell the Gravy!

Another Winner..................... The Redwing Inn, Lympstone on Fri 3rd Aug 07
This was the 2nd time I had seen the 'post paddy' line up, and it confirmed what I thought first time around: the show goes on and is as good as it has ever been!
The old favourites are still there but new numbers are bringing a welcome new sound to this superb local band. The 'rolling & tumbling' debut was excellent and new guitarist, Kevin, really brings something new to the band. Musically, the lads are the best they have ever been, in my view.
I would personally like to hear them play John Lee Hooker's 'Boom-Boom' more akin to the original but thats because I'm a real JLH fan I guess!
I don't know why, but everytime I hear Rod Stewart's 'The first cut is the deepest' I always think of the Gravy playing it. It just seems one of those songs that would suit their sound. Have a think about it Dave?
My favourite - as before - was the classic Stones number 'You can't always get what you want', except with the Gravy you DO get what you want.
The lads apparently have done a 4 track sampler cd - and I'll try my best to get hold of one of those when it comes out.
The night flew by far too quickly for me and I had to leave before the end - why on earth did I book a taxi home for 11:15pm ?????
In all, another enjoyable evening at the best pub in Lympstone

well worth it The Redwing Inn, Lympstone on Fri 7th Apr 06
The Gravy once again at my favourite venue - the first set although enjoyable seemed as if Paddy on lead was struggling to find his 'guitar fingers', I don't want to criticise but I guess sometimes it just happens that way.
BUT after the interval and a pint or two he really found form and in fact played like a man possessed - absolutely superb! His version of Robert Cray's 'Through the Grinder' was electric and made up for the earlier shortcomings.
The rest of the set was brilliant - shame the pub landlord was unable to do his usual song or two due to 'an accident'.
If you love real pubs, real ales and real good blues then Laughing Gravy at The Redwing are well worth checking out.
Apparently they're back there in June - but please check to confirm.

Gravy Time at The Redwing The Redwing Inn, Lympstone on Fri 29th Jul 05
Excellent performance by The Gravy at the perfect location for me. I've been following them since '86 and they still deliver the goods with a humour and style of their very own.
Paddy was exceptionally good last night, and The Stones 'You can't always get what you want' was the nights highlight for me. 'Roadrunner' featuring the landlord was excellent too. (Let him sing a few more please!!) I only wish the gigs were an hour longer.
Entertainment at The Redwing is just like having a band in your own front room. It's one of the best (and last) 'real' pubs left in the area and when I win the lottery big one - I'm gonna buy it!!
