Led Zep Too[Led Zeppelin Tribute Band, 4 piece]
Get the Flash Player to see these images.
Led Zep Too began in 2002 with Mike - guitars and Olli - Vocals. It took almost a year to find Shaun, a superb bassist, who, like J-P J, is a trained musician. The first few gigs went well with Paul on drums and then on 1st April 2005 Glen replaced Paul and it all clicked.
Sadly Glen parted company with the rest of the band in August 2007 and although he has played a number of gigs since, as a guest, he no longer felt he could commit full time.
Finding a replacement was traumatic but they now have Kenny; who is an admirable replacement and looks more like Bonzo which is a small bonus. Meanwhile Glen is still around for the occasional gig.
The intention with Led Zep Too was to be a perfect sound-alike but not to worry about the look; but under pressure they finally moved in that direction.
Nevertheless it is in the recreation of the incredibly authentic LIVE Led Zeppelin sound that they really excel. This band has to be heard LIVE to be believed.
The attention to detail is second to none, Mike has authentic vintage Marshall amps and heads, Gibson classic guitars, Gibson SG twin neck, Fender Telecaster (unique Jimmy Page custom copy) Fender Strat. in "Lake Placid blue" custom copy. He uses a bow in dazed and confused and a Theramin in Whole Lotta Love.
Olli has the hardest and yet the easiest task. Lets face it, you can either sing like Robert Plant or you can't. He can! That's all there is to say about that.
Glen uses the Ludwig, orange vistalite Bonham signature kit. Kenny plays a green sparkle Ludwig Bonham kit.
Shaun uses a vintage Fender bass guitar but has had to hold off on the white grand piano and the Hammond organ for a bit longer. He is, however, able to recreate the authentic sounds using modern technology, namely two Korg keyboards through Schroeder bass cabs, and a Carvin keyboard amp.

Led Zep Too Rock, Yeovil Sleeps Quicksilver Mail, Yeovil on Sun 13th Apr 08
Guys. Really enjoyed The Led Zep Too gig at Yeovil's Quicksilver Mail pub on Sunday evening. It was too bad that so few turned up to see you. they missed out. Thanks for sharing the Rocket Fuel Russian Vodka after the gig. May have been a mistake to turn down the offer of Ruth's toasted sarnies though, in favour of getting on the road, I'd have gone for it myself. Next time I'll definitely bring along my friend Jimmy Page's biggest fan, says she can't wait, hey, maybe I'll bring along both my friends!
Well, The music blasted off at hi octane level with How Many More Times. And I thought this is great! I remember why I loved Zep for the last 30 years.
Well, all of it was good. Great authentic sounding guitaring (nice equipment Mike) with Vintage Les Pauls, Double Necked Gibson for Stairway and Danelectro for Kashmir. And I felt the solo-ing was adventurous, no dodging the tricky JP stuff. Though I'm not a drummer I was impressed with Moby Dick, Yes, Olli, you do sound like Robert Plant. And enjoyed the Bass + keyboards from JPJ impersonator.
Liked you doing the live song versions. Dazed & Confused was great, including the bowing.
Was worth being a bit wiped out at work the next day.
So hope you'll come back to Yeovil and there'll be a bigger crowd next time.

Reply from Led Zep Too: Yes the audience turn out was a bitter disappointment.
Mike took it out on the rocket fuel vodka and the vodka took it out on Mike's playing, just a little bit.
He can play even better than that!
So if we do come back, and there is a proper audience, then you will be in for something special.
blew the roof off Red Lion, Stevenage on Fri 21st Mar 08
The Red Lion has often been busy but never like this. You couldn't move. Lift your feet up and you wouldn't fall over. No way was there room for the usual throng of dancers.
In the blistering set, the boys played for well over three hours with scarcely a break - and certainly none for the drummer. Mr Bonham must had done a 20 minute drum solo on Moby Dick, but we didn't notice at the time. It turned out that Jimmy had been locked out of the van during a change of clothes - he couldn't play in his boxers now could he?
The Zep catalogue was well and truly plundered to increasing frenzy from the faithful, including my own fave rave No Quarter and culminated in the house favourite, Kashmir.
Fantastic. | |

Reply from Led Zep Too: Thanks for giving me a chance to apologise publicly to Jimmi for forgetting to unlock the van for him.
Its high time The Red Lion had that much talked about revamp and introduced a dressing room! And a stage!
But perhaps it would not be the Red Lion if they did.
Anyway thanks for the review and may I take this opportunity to thank all the Red Lion fans for another lunatic night of drunken grooving.
And thanks to Wayne for his excellent hospitality.
Red Lion Black dog Red Lion, Stevenage on Thu 23rd Nov 06
Led Zep Too were... I was about to say unbelievable, but actually they were the opposite. Not to mention the double neck, violin bow, theremin, illuminated drums and (sorry guys it does work) wigs! They really understood how the Band played live in the early 70's, including extended improvisation and medleys and phenomenal power and feel (thank you John Bonham). This band shows you Led Zeppelin at their best, which you scarcely get on their studio albums. I meant to catch the first set then get home for dinner, but they played full-on for 3 hours without a break to a packed house and the Red Lion extended the bar until midnight. Result: dinner in (black) dog.

The Zeps kick bottom Red Lion, Stevenage on Thu 23rd Nov 06
The faithful of mid Herts were treated to a fabulous set by the lads who played for over 2 1/2 hours straight through. Although three of the band got a rest during Moby Dick, the drummer put his stamp on that track for nearly 15 minutes, and certainly deserved his pint of Cold & Black at the end - I'm sorry it took a while to arrive !
The room is not big to begin with, let alone with a hundred sweaty bodies grooving away.
Ollie wasn't feeling well to start with but soon forgot his discomfort once the mophead went on. The bass-n-keys man was awesome, somehow extracting full bass out of the Korg - so important for a song like No Quarter.
The Guitar man was fantastic too, using 3 (or that would be 4 !) instruments during the night, complete with violin bow and theremin.
Finally - the encore - this went on for over half an hour. Unbelievable.
This is an excellent band - catch them if you can.
