Lemanis[Indie Rock, 4 piece]
Get the Flash Player to see these images.
Lemanis are a 4 piece band of multi-talented musicians who all sing and play a wide range of instruments.
With one album completed (Shell - 2007), and another .half-way through the recording process, the band split their time evenly between writing/recording and gigging around the South West, and more recently beyond.
Encompassing a sound that ranges from solo acoustic musings to huge orchestral melodies via intricate vocal harmonies and a good sense of humour, Lemanis have already attracted a variety of fans from differing musical backgrounds. Gigs are usually full of surprises, sometimes include a random cover, and always raise a smile or two!
The band are:
Phil Baker - Bass, Keys, Vocals, Guitars, Melodica, Drums.
Nick Lemanis - Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Megaphone.
Adam Robinson - Vocals, Guitars, Bass.
Chris Sinclair - Drums, Vocals.
Lemanis also borrow the talents of a number of highly talented backing musicians to form a mini-orchestra for shows and recording. Appearing in upcoming shows will be:
John Sidbotham - Vocals, Drums, Acoustic & Resonator guitars, Bouzouki, Fender Rhodes, Cello
Tamsyn - Vocals, Flute, Melodica, Tin Whistle

[Mon 14th Apr 08] It's been a while.... again.... Hi everyone,
I hope you've all managed to shake off those winter blues and are looking forward to summer as much as we are. A lot has happened in the last couple of months for Lemanis, starting with the Reel Cinema show in February.
After all the preparation and advertising that went into the gig, we were all hoping for somethig a bit special, and weren't disappointed. The turn out exceeded our expectations and everyone had a really good time. The venue itself is awesome and we really hope to play there again at some point.
Back in the studio we're approaching the end of the tunnel in terms of recording the second album. With little more than finishing touches and mix downs for most of the songs, we're well on target to have everything ready by Autumn. Now the biggest problem is trying to think of an interesting venue to host the album launch...
Our search for a new long term drummer may finally be at an end too! Jowan Edwards joined us in time for the Reel Cinema but sadly decided he couldn't commit the time due to other musical responsibilities. He played his second and last show with us last night at the Voodoo Lounge in support of Your Army (which was a nice little 35 min set for us).
Taking over will be the talented Chris Sinclair who will be playing his first show with us on 3rd May - the launch of our impending website www.lemanis.net. Look out for further anouncements, and I hope you'll join us in welcoming Chris to Lemanis.
More news on all fronts will follow soon, hopefully there won't be a 2 month gap next time..... Peace. Nick | [Wed 13th Feb 08] Hi Everyone!
Sorry it's been ... Hi Everyone!
Sorry it's been a while since the last entry - the members of Lemanis have had a busy few months and time has flown by. The Reel Cinema show is only 9 days away now and the final stages of preparation are being put into place. All members of the orchestra are gradually converging on Plymouth for last minute rehearsals, and Phil, Adam, Jowan and I are gearing ourselves up for what should be the biggest Lemanis show to date.
On the subject of gigs, we have a few more confirmed over the next few months. Shows in Plymouth, Paignton, and Exeter in March and April will culminate in the Lemanis.net website launch show in the Voodoo Lounge on 1st May.
Lemanis will also be appearing at various regional festivals this summer, with confirmed slots at the Aeon Festival on Dartmoor, the Volksfest in Plymouth, and the Maker Sunshine Festival. There may be a couple more to add to this but so far they are still uncomfirmed.
January 17th saw our return to the studio after a 3 month break. Work on the second album is coming along at a reasonable pace, with some big steps in the last couple of weeks. Although completion date is still not definite, we're still aiming to host the Album Release Show by October at the latest.
Thanks for reading, hope to see you all at the cinema next Friday.
Nick | [Sat 22nd Dec 07] Hey Hey!!
Just a quick messag... Hey Hey!!
Just a quick message to say Merry Christmas to everyone who has supported us by coming to gigs, buying our albums, or just following our progress over the last year. We hope you all have a great time over the next few weeks and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to announce what will be our biggest gig so far. On February 22nd we will be playing as a 16 piece (with support) at the Reel Cinema in the city centre. More details will follow early in the New Year, but keep your diaries free because it's going to be huuuuggge!!
Have a good Christmas people! Laters,
Nick | [Tue 4th Dec 07] Hey hey!
Firstly, thanks to e... Hey hey!
Firstly, thanks to everyone who came along to the Voodoo Lounge to see us on Saturday night. We all had a lot of fun and it seems like the crowd did too which is a bonus! John's last gig couldn't have been any more of a success as we came up with what was apparently our best performance in a long time. It felt good to play back in the Voodoo Lounge for the first time in ages - the setup in there has changed a fair bit since our acoustic lounge gig all those months ago and the sound seemed a lot better. Thanks once again to The Dharma Bums and Adam Parker was some great support sets. Also to Rob and Jason for supplying us all with the best sound the Voodoo has to offer!
So now what? John has departed (check out his other continuing project - Dr. Soul and the Plastic Sturgeons - they're very good, and on Lemonrock) and we appear to lack a drummer.... But we've got through worse and I'm 100% positive that this will not be the end for Lemanis, just a new beginning.
However it does mean that we will be using this opportunity to bow out of the live scene for a few months and make a welcome return to the studio in the New Year. With new tracks ready to record, the album should hopefully be finished and mastered by the middle of next year. We are also aiming to come back with a big show in late February - details of which I cannot yet reveal - so keep an eye out here and on our myspace site for announcements in the next month or so.
Before we go into hibernation next week, we will be playing one more gig. On Thursday night at The Fortescue on Mutley Plain we will be playing acoustic versions of our tunes - entrance is only £1 so if you're in the area drop in because it should be lots of fun!
That is all. See you later. Nick | |
