After gigging together as a duo for 4 years, acoustically and currently with a drum machine, duo Malice (Chris and Ash) are to have their very first gig with a real live drummer, Tony Mumford. The band's first three-piece gig will be on Saturday 10th May at The Australian Arms in Haverhill, Suffolk. Ash and Chris told Lemonrock: "We hope this new format will be the first of many such gigs. read full storyThe Hop Reunion 2008 Many Lemonrock readers will recall that fabulous day last summer - June 16th - and The Hop 40th Anniversary re-union concert at the Woodhall Community Centre, Welwyn Garden City. Last year's concert featured five bands, most with the original members, who had played at the Hop in the late sixties. The show was such an overwhelming success, with countless requests to make it an annual event, that the organising committee has decided to promote "The Hop Re-Union - 2008". The event will take place on Saturday, June 28th, at the same venue, the Woodhall Community Centre. This year's bands confirmed so far are The Hi Numbers, Recall, Hot Maegus, and Mozart, all featuring some of the original performers who graced the stage at The Hop back in those heady days of the late sixties. This years band pedigree linked to The Hop includes Danny Bacon (Hi Numbers) formerly with 5 Day week, Cheetah and Bumps in the Night, Chris Gillies (Recall) from Cheetah, Ian Adamson, (Mozart) one of the found [29 Apr 08]

With the approval of Lemonrock's editor, he is asking for the help of musicians and promoters in putting together a concise PDF guide on behalf of the site, which would be used to aid bands and landlords who wish to make a success of live music nights. While Paul says he can offer his immense enthusiasm for the production of the booklet, he desperately needs to hear from contributors on a variety of subjects related to gigging, as well as requiring help from other Lemonrock members who can spare a couple of hours each week helping to produce the finished article. "This is very much a team effort and needs many other people leading this forward," Paul explained. "The views of ordinary punters are just as important too, so if you care about the future of live music in our pubs, please contact me (info@pauldavismusic.co.uk) so I can get back in contact with you." read full storyPaul Forrest with Jethro Tull - The Ultimate Feather! In this musical world there is the phenomenon of the tribute band, where a group of musicians pay homage to bands (particularly older or defunct bands) that inspired them and influenced them the most. Some tribute bands get together for the sake of it because they love the band in question, and it brings them closer to the music. Some bands take their love of the music one step further, paying attention to every detail, nuance and element of the songs so that they can recapture the feel of what it could have been like to see the band perform in their heyday. A band which falls into the latter category is "The Dayglo Pirates", the Brighton, UK based band paying tribute to the music of Jethro Tull, fronted by vocalist, flautist and guitarist Paul Forrest. Surely, it is every tribute band's wish to receive some form of recognition or acknowledgement by the actual band itself. The Dayglo Pirates had been fortunate over the years to have various original Tull members perform with them [23 Apr 08]

St Albans has, for several decades, attracted more than its fair share of musical talent, and has more music venues per square mile than almost any other UK town. Recently, the Hertfordshire town made major news in a top American lifestyle magazine, Stop Smiling. Based in Chicago and New York, Stop Smiling has a readership of 300,000 people. Now Read on: Reproduced with permission A chilly October evening in the town of St. Albans, a little over 20 miles northwest of London. Strictly speaking, St. Albans should designate itself a city because of its cathedral, but none of its inhabitants refer to it as such - it's too small. They think of it as a town. The name comes from Alban, the first British Christian martyr, who was beheaded here circa 304 AD by the Romans. The massive tower of the cathedral stands high above everything else. And there it is ahead of us, brightly illuminated, overlo [19 Apr 08]
read full storyFrom forum foes to band buddies! In April 2007, the Lemonrock Forum started to become a verbal battleground between drummer Richard Ashby (a.k.a. richardstax) and bassist Paul Davis (a.k.a. fridgemagnates). Many subjects, including bands made up of deps, the quality of musicianship between "function" & "pub" acts, dwindling payments from landlords, set material, and DIY promotion, were furiously debated. The strange thing is that the two musicians even occasionally managed to argue about things they both agreed on... From this most unpromising start, it's amazing that these two individuals have ended up depping for each other's bands on more than one occasion, and do find that they can actually work together without resorting to violence! So much so, that just under a year from their first online contact on Lemonrock, they play their first gig as proper bandmates on Friday 18th April 2008 at The North Star P.H. in Royston! FINGERS OF RIGHTNESS features the aforementioned Richard & Paul as the rock/pop... more » [17 Apr 08]
read full storyEnd of an era for London Jam After six years at this venue, the weekly West London Jam hosted by the fREAKjam Band, is on the move. A change of management at the Fox & Pheasant means that live music will no longer feature there. Therefore, as from Thursday 10th April 2008, we will be moving just up the road to the Blues Bar: 5, Station Road, West Drayton, London UB7 7BT. The pub was packed out for last jam at the Fox, with lots of people turning up to mark the occasion. Many friendships have been forged over the years and several bands have formed as a direct result of musicians meeting here. So let's hope that the next six years will be as successful as the last and that many more people will come and join the fun at our new venue. [7 Apr 08]
SAS out / Delayed Reaction in SAS were a hugely popular 3 piece and over the last few years built a solid reputation for tight harmonies and energetic performances around the pub/clubs of Beds/Herts/Cambs. Delayed Reaction are a professional sounding 4 piece, playing everything from Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Fratellis with unusual classics from Queen (Somebody to Love, It's a kind of Magic) through to Bowie (Life on Mars, Let's Dance) So when SAS called it a day, and Delayed Reaction's singer/guitarist moved overseas, it seemed a natural move to combine the two. John (ex SAS) has now joined forces with the other 3 guys and Delayed Reaction has been reborn and has the first few gigs under their belts. "We've worked hard to ensure there is something for every taste in our set list" says John. "The sound is modern, tight and professional, the 3 part harmonies are spot on. We're experienced guys and we know how to entertain". "Anybody who liked SAS will like this, and existing Delayed Reaction followers will be [5 Apr 08]
