Out of the Blue at The Sunrunner, Hitchin No, not a "fun run" - you won't catch us taking that much exercise! But we'll certainly generate some heat to match the sun; and, yes, it'll be fun - as it always is at an Out of the Blue gig. This pub has booked quite a few blues and blues/rock bands, so we should all feel at home here. Come and join the fun and groove to the sound of Out of the Blue in Hitchin 'cos "y'know you need a shot of rhythm 'n blues". 8.45pm - 11.05pm

Out of the Blue at The Red Lion, Billericay When King James VI came down from Scotland to become also King James I of England he demanded that the red lion (rampant) of Scotland be displayed in public places. Lots of pubs decided that to avoid brand confusion they would call themselves "The Red Lion". Out of the Blue should have no brand confusion either - "blue by name and blue by nature". The band will be dispensing its usual fare of rampant classic and modern blues in Billericay. It's a new venue for us which we're looking forward to. Come and join us. 8.45pm

Out of the Blue at The Rose & Crown, St Albans Well, doesn't time fly? Here we are back at the Rose & Crown for another jumping, jive session from the (jolly) team at Out of the Blue. We hope you all had a good summer & autumn and are digging in for the winter. Don't dig in so far that you stay home and miss this heart-warming, foot-stomping performance. We're fresh from a trip to the east (well, Billericay) and back on familiar territory. Come on down. 8.45pm - 11.05pm

Out of the Blue at The White Lion, St Albans "Can blue men sing the whites?" Well, the blues men of Out of the Blue are certainly playing the White Lion this week. Although they don't play any Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band numbers their repertoire does include blues-influenced stuff from Jethro Tull and some Southern Rock-style numbers from Lynyrd Skynryd and Dire Straits as well as classic blues from Albert King, Junior Wells and more recent stuff from Robert Cray and Jeff Healey (RIP - what a sad death from cancer at 41). So yes, definitely white men can sing the blues - so why not the other way round? Get down to the White Lion and see the proof. 8.45pm - 11.05pm

New Blue The Rose & Crown, St Albans on Mon 24th Sep 07
The Rose & Crown's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. rated as one of our top reviews Out of the Blue returned to the Rose & Crown after a summer break. They haven't been idle - they've been recruiting a new guitarist. What a find: laid back, versatile and creative. Obviously a good summer.

It's a shame the punters didn't turn out, just the few of us indoors and a crowd out in the garden; apparently the band sounded just as good out there.

I recognised a few numbers from their last time here, but also a few new ones including a Bobby Bland number (something to do with "Imagination", that I'm sure I've heard as a soul number - but here given a heavier feel with the Albert King-ish bass riff).

Their "southern rock" numbers like "Let's Work Together" are infectious, but they also play some low-down blues like "Blues Before Sunrise" with lots of dynamics and excellent vocals and lead guitar.

All-in-all a band to be watched out for, I'm glad to hear they're back at the Rose & Crown in December, and I gather they're playing at a newish venue in Newgate Street next Tuesday.

If you missed them on Monday then catch them next Tuesday!
A music fan, Wed 26th Sep 07
Reply from Out of the Blue: Thanks for that - we enjoyed ourselves. Hope to see you again "music fan", please introduce yourself for a free pint! Hope to see a few more new fans at the Coach & Horses next Tuesday.
Fun Inn on the Green, Harpenden on Thu 1st Mar 07
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Well, what can I say, a band that plays well engages the audience & has fun. As a bit of and old timer myself I felt the warm glow of nostalgia (or was it IPA)!

Says it all - a stunning performance from their retiring guitarist James (gone to be a drummer !!!) Still, I am sure they will prosper with their new line up. Do yourself a favour & catch their next gig.
