Entertaining, worth a visit Dissonance on Sun 11th Nov 07

Dissonance were an unknown to me until we were in the Phoenix to meet the landlady there.

We stayed for their second set which featured some great high energy covers, as well as the "us too" standards (Whiskey in the Jar, etc).

The good stuff was done very well though and they were exceptionally entertaining for such a young band with a lot of on stage frolicking - and even some homoerotic performances during "gay bar" which was very funny if a little cringe-making (tongues!)

They looked like they were having a blast and I would recommend seeing them if you enjoy heavy rock.

According to Tony no-one has written a review on this brilliant band.... Why?

They play brilliant rock covers all of which are performed with such expertise. The sound is spot on and Seth's electric drums just add to the brilliance of this band. They enjoy what they're playing and that "vibe" is sent throughout the audience... Go and watch them and see for yourselves how good they are, you won't be able to stop your feet from tapping and you're bound to be singing along as their whole set is so well chosen.

Sunday afternoon gigs have a very different vibe about them to Friday nights and Saturday nights, and this one had the new non-smoking regs to contend with too!

The exuberant Johnny Hoover made the most of his 50 foot mic lead and ventured out on to the pavement to serenade the puffers and to use as much of the available floor space as possible as a stage.

Dressed in authentic punk garb, Johnny's mad hair and great make up on Heather; and they deliver a really entertaining punk set.

Favourite moments include a memorable 'My perfect cousin', '99 Red Balloons' with a balloon release too; and a hilarious punk version of Britney's 'Toxic'.

Full on from start to finish and encores - you can't help but have a smile on your face!

Well worth seeing if you get the chance!

You took me by surprise down at the Crawford by turning the set list on its head and then kept it going down at the Phoenix by mixing things up again. It was great to hear you bring back a couple of your "old" songs that I haven't heard you do for yonks.

This new system is a great move and even us KT regulars haven't got a clue what's coming next!

I'm always reluctant to criticise bands cos I can't even play the triangle myself, but there are a lot of bands out there who play the same old songs in the same order every time you see them and it just gets stale and predictable. I love the way that KT are always bringing in new songs and with so many songs in their playlist now they are way ahead of the other bands.

Quite often when they play there are a few new people there who haven't seen them before and they are always blown away by the sheer quality of it all, but ancient people like me who have been listening to local bands for nearly a hundred years are even more impressed.

You may need to work on the cunning links between songs, but I won't hold that against you!
