Entertaining female duo playing a huge range of covers spanning several decades. Both experienced musicians these two are capable of carrying off just about any style from the most powerful rock anthem to the most sensitive folk song. Watch out also for their new set of traditional and modern Irish songs. Great harmony singing lead by Pip with skillfully executed arrangements for guitar and violin make this a real class act.

Original Demo 1 : Bitter Sweet Morning [Ballad]12345678910 8 votes average 8.00 Notes from Pipanellie: "This is a simple atmospheric ballad with a haunting melody and words that everyone can relate to. Pip wrote it years ago and although we have never really expanded our repertoire of originals, we always include this one at gigs, and it seems to go down well particularly in the smaller more intimate venues."

Quality Duo viva viva, Turnpike Lane on Mon 28th Jan 08
Turned up to play a 20 minute slot and was delighted to see that Pip & Ellie were also on the bill! I had been wondering how these two performed classic songs with just a guitar and violin... and now I know!
Despite the poor organisation and bad sound quality from the venue (they're usually top notch), Pipanellie were complete professionals, displaying a high standard of musicianship and were definitely the highlight of the evening for me. 'Black Horse & The Cherry Tree' was a particularly noteworthy moment (one of my favourite songs too!)
Pip handled the vocals effortlessly and Ellie complimented her perfectly with some lovely harmonies and counter-melodies on violin.
Definitely worth a night out to see these ladies, your toes will be tapping!

Reply from Pipanellie: Thanks Atheen. Its an interesting venue and it was wonderful to see so many other great female artists all doing their thing. We really enjoyed the evening. Keep in touch ...Ellie
great atmosphere The Portland Arms, St Albans on Sun 22nd Apr 07
I was told to get there early as it was likely to become packed. Well, I promptly turned up 15 mins before the duo was due to start. At this stage there were no more than a dozen people in the pub. Well, I grabbed the softest seat within easy reach of the bar and waited with anticipation. 8.35 Pip and Ellie appear. Three people leave the pub, oh dear! I thought. Well, they introduced themselves, smiles all around, and start off with "Dreams". "Yes, they are good", somebody says to me, "I'm phoning my friends to come here". The third number they played was "Perfect", how very apt I thought. Then, before I knew it, they had finished their first set. The pub was now heaving. In between songs, Pip had engaged very pleasantly with the attentive audience, her charisma bubbling over. Ellie also put in the occasional well timed comment.
A 20 minute break now, but oh! what's this? The music doesn't stop and neither does Ellie. A guy called Mark grabs the guitar and promptly sings two of his own compositions while Ellie plays along. Then it is another guys turn, Martin. He does a couple of Van Morrison numbers, sounding remarkably like the man and, oh yeah! Ellie joins in here as well. Finally, she gets her break while another guy plays two numbers.
Right, back to the second set. Third pint of beer for me and we are being treated to some classic material excellently performed by these two. "Bad Moon Rising, Jolene, a Queen medley in which Pip has no problem in soliciting the audience to join in, and I Saw Her Standing There" to name a few. But, alas! before I know it, it is all over, time for me to call a taxi.
These two are certainly worth seeing, you won't be disappointed. Pop, country, rock, they perform really well with their own interpretation. Oodles of stage presence, great sound. My personal highlights were the two Alansis Morissette numbers and The Stranglers' Golden Brown; not to mention Bitter Sweet Morning, Pip's own creation. Brilliant.
"Not Fade Away", their own arrangement. We have Pip here playing percussive guitar and singing, while Ellie is playing a jig on her violin. A bit like a jam and tuna sandwich. How on earth they kept this together I don't know, but they did. The jam and tuna sandwich fused perfectly to leave a lovely taste on your palette. I was left wanting more, I'll have to go their next gig and pray they play this unique arrangement again.
The Portland Arms, I don't know if the people were here for the music or just for a drink but they were captivated by these two.
Ok, now for the criticism. None really. Ellie's violin playing was great, no nasty squeaks. A little loud in the mix sometimes perhaps, although I wasn't best placed to be subjective about the sound, proximity to the bar taking priority. Pip and Ellie's harmonizing, ten out of ten, Pip's lovely voice and accomplished guitar, terrific.
Well, what more could you want? A great atmosphere and a really good night.

Reply from Pipanellie: Thanks for the review - we had a great evening! Its a lovely pub to play in ..come back on 17th June!!
Best in ages The PumpHouse Arts Centre, Watford on Tue 6th Mar 07
I saw these two at the Pump House a couple of weeks ago - the best musicians I have seen for ages. They played loads of well-known songs to their own arrangements including some classics like Jolene, Ain't No sunshine, and Golden Brown... great atmosphere down at the Pump House - packed out, but you could have heard a pin drop!
