Taunton Calling Pen & Quill, Taunton on Fri 4th Dec 09
I hadn't seen The Reoffenders for a while, so was looking forward to seeing how the 'new' rhythm section was fitting in. I'm glad to say that last night the band sounded the best I've ever heard them, the drummer and bass player work really well together and in my opinion have massively improved the overall sound (not that they weren't good before). My heart sank when the band began with the familiar intro to the dire Final Countdown, but fortunately that was followed by a great choice of songs, with some that I hadn't heard them do before (Stranglers, Clash, Dead Kennedys, Ricky Martin?), and, as always, great entertainment. I really have never seen these guys have an off-night, or perhaps they just hide it better than most! A quick word on the P&Q, the new landlord Brian, is putting a lot of effort into getting the pub back to the standard it used to be. He's booking great bands and solo artist on a regular basis, and deserves the support of Taunton's music-loving public. Anyway, thanks guys for a great night, see you soon!

Reply from The Reoffenders: Cheers Shaun, we had a great night too. The improvements to the P&Q have made it a much better venue for live music - the stage is a huge bonus!

Teenage Kicks @ My Age! The York Inn, Minehead on Sat 3rd Oct 09
Honestly WASTED in a pub in Minehead.
I was lucky enough to catch this band at the Watchet Music Fest a while back. It was my first introduction to Themed Covers. I am, it must be said NOT a great fan of "Tribute bands" though I do like people who turn up to do some stylized covers. This lot just did PUNK. And did it well.
At the York which is probably the only place you are gonna get any live music in Minehead, the power and enthusiasm of the show enthralled all. My son who was not even born when most of these songs were hits, even got into the mood "pogo-ing" around the latter stages of the set. Subliminal messages from his dim and distant childhood must have had an influence. or it may have been that this band just look like they are enjoying it as much as the punters. Good solid musicians great front Pair (No that's not what you think! ;-) I meant the two singers the girl has a voice like a wounded moose (I really do mean that in a complimentary way) and is the perfect foil for her lead partner who looks like he has his hair cut through a collander and aerosols his trousers. A good indicator of a tight ship is that you tend not to notice the bass/percussion, this lot were no exception - great solid beat throughout the gig. I loved the lead guitar, he was up and down the fret like a ferret who has just found a pound of nuts, often doing the parts of two guitars that would have been on the originals. Great mate I was impressed.
If you can't tell, I enjoyed it, I took my wife (who is more a 'racy' / 'motown' fan) But she loved it too, I smiled as from the corner of my eye caught her singing [more more more] along to 'rebel yell' and sang along to the Blondie numbers. Myself My wife, my son and son inlaw had a very enjoyable evenings entertainment, and after all, is that not why we go to see live music?.Trust me next time they are playing within spitting distance I will be there with a hatful of oldies to partake in some banter and re-live some of my past.

Reply from The Reoffenders: I'm not quite sure what to make of the wounded moose reference but thank you for the review, and for enjoying it so much. We're back at the York in January so don't spend all of your pennies on Xmas. Looking forward to it ;-)

daft punk! Topsham Town FC, Topsham on Sat 11th Jul 09
St James Scooter Club of Exeter held their annual summer rally (Topshambles 2) last Sat at Topsham Town Football Club. A hundred plus packed the club house and were teased into a frenzy by The Love Juggernaut & Casual City Soul playing the best in Northern Soul, SKA & Indie. The lights went down, the crowd hustled and waited for the arrival of this years well chosen band The Reoffenders. After the first few notes it quite obvious they were in for a treat. Perfectly timed, well rehearsed and in tune. Bringing back memories of old came flooding back. Topshambles was now bouncing. After an hour's set the band took a well earned break. Vinyl Matt started a small but powerful set on the decks bringing the crowd out on the floor during the interval. Back to business, The Reoffenders came back on with vengeance, vigour and venom blasting a further hour's set. The crowd were loving them. If the Kids are United and Terry Jacks' Seasons in the Sun to name but a few, utterly brilliant. The night ended with me helping with the Toy Dolls, Nelly the Elephant. And off I went with a Trumpty Trump Trump... If you've not seen what is probably one of the best bands on the circuit, you don't know what you're missing. Thanks, Trumpy.
