| | Open Mic evening Every Tuesday night The Rivermill Tavern showcases local musicians and emerging talent, by means of staging an 'open mic' night. This gives musicians af all ages and abilities the opportunity to perform in public, and also watch others play a mixture of cover versions and original material.
So, bring along an instrument, or just bring yourself, and come and join in the action from 9pm onwards. You will always be made to feel welcome, there is no need to be afraid or shy; There is no pressure to play, and we always welcome new faces.
The night works like this: those who would like to play bring their instrument(s) and put their name down on a chalkboard. Each artist will play between 3 and 6 songs, depending how many musicians wish to play on the night in question. Everyone from the absolute beginner to the professional musician is welcome to come and join in. 8.30pm - 11pm (regular: every Tuesday) |

Vocal Harmonies Julian Carter on Wed 9th Jan 08
It has been a year since I last saw Julian do his solo gig and it was great to catch up with him again. Julian will always play a song for you if he knows it so I kept shouting them out: The White Room, Changing Man and Hey Joe, just to name a few. Julian had a chat with me during the break and has a new toy which brings out harmonies to his songs, what fun! It sounds great. So apart from the beer being £3.20 a pint (although the landlord did give us back 20p) it was fun to see Julian again - he really is a great guitar player, the best I have ever seen or played with.

Reply from Julian Carter: Thanks Keith, it was good to see you too.
I wish you and Mick good luck with the new band, and hope to get to one of your gigs one day soon.
Cheers mate,
Jules. | |
A great tribute to Trevor! Grapevine Blues on Fri 2nd Nov 07
It was Trevor the Guvnor's birthday, and Grapevine Blues did him proud. It was a terrific gig, with some lovely playing all round... tight and loose at the same time, which is what this kind of music needs. Dave and Ivan are a rhythm section that pushes everything along well, but never sounds stressed, and Mike's gruff vocals and punchy harmonica are a class act in the blues world. Cas blows a sax like nobody's business, with a rich and rough tone that matches Mike's harmonica really well. Great stuff! Ok, so I'm a guitar player, and I have my heroes. Dr Ika from Grapevine is one of them. He's a superb guitar player, with a style all his own... BB King, Larry Carlton, Carlos Santana, Robben Ford, Mike Stern... he's not like any of them, but he's like them all, in his own brilliant way. If you know what I mean! Just add him to the list. I had a really great night, well played Grapevine!

All that Jazz Charlotte Collingwood on Wed 28th Mar 07
This is not the first time I have been fortunate enough to catch Charlotte playing at The Rivermill, and once again I stand impressed by not only her wonderful voice, but obvious enthusiasm for her work; a fixed smile on her face for the duration of the gig demonstrates her passion.
Soaring, open vocals, and the ability to turn her hand from one style to another with a seamless join expressed the adaptability of this extremely professional artist.
John's acoustic guitar work was intricate, delicate and filled with light and shade, which could only help complement Charlotte's vocals.
If there was a downside to this performance, it was simply that there were not enough people there that night to witness it. If Charlotte is appearing at a venue near you, I suggest you pay a visit; even if the songs are not your choice or taste, there is no doubting the ability and talent of this act. "Keep Music Live" is the motto of the Musicians Union; and it doesn't come much more "live" than this act!
| Dave Wiggins, Thu 29th Mar 07 | |
Reply from Charlotte Collingwood: Hi Dave. Thanks for the review. We always enjoy The Rivermill Tavern, both as performers and spectators. It's a unique venue with friendly locals, and a lovely location particularly in the summer. Hope to see you again next time we're there.

[Sat 14th Jul 07] Latest news Sunday night is always a hugely popular night at the Rivermill, as it is the one night of the week that we hold a general knowledge quiz for all to enter. For a nominal entry fee (20 pence per person!) you can enter a team of up to six people to compete to win either the total sum of the entrance money, or a "Gallon of beer"; effectivly eight pints or alternative drinks. The team in second place wins whatever the winners reject. Those who come in "second-to-last" don't walk away empty handed either; that team wins the "goody bag" which has a mixture of all sorts of tuck inside!
Even if you don't have any luck in the quiz, fate may still be on your side, as we end the evening with a game of "Play your cards wrong". Raffle tickets can be purchased for a pound, and if your ticket is pulled out of the hat you are given the chance to guess a sequence of 8 cards; whether each will be higher or lower in number then the previous.
Up to five people per week can be drawn from the hat; if no-one wins, the prize money carries over to the following week. Some of our winners have carried away over £900 before now!
We know what you're thinking.
You're thinking, "Do I feel Lucky?"
Well do you??!!

| Print Flyers | |
|
|
|
| Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
| Flyers limited to 14 days. Get longer flyers by joining Lemonrock - FREE Music Lover membership! | |
