The Alternative Jethro Tull Tribute: Original acoustic music with a distinctly Tullish flavour. (And with a Tull tune here and there thrown in for good measure)
Sossity is Paul Forrest and Marcie Schreier, two like-minded musicians who joined forces to celebrate their love for the music of Jethro Tull, but with their own songs.
Paul Forrest..is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with experience in rock, folk, classical, new age and other forms of music. Born and raised in South East London, he moved to Sussex to study psychology at the University there in 1991.
Whilst appearing in numerous folk and rock bands, playing guitar, mandolin, bass, and flute, his main role for the last 11 years has been lead-singer, flautist, and guitarist for the UK's premier Jethro Tull tribute band, The Dayglo Pirates.
The band has performed with original members including Clive Bunker, Barrie Barlow,David (now Dee) Palmer, Glen Cornick, and Dave Pegg. He has appeared on radio with Lead singer Ian Anderson.
Paul was introduced to Tull by a musician friend when he was 18. It inspired him to take up the flute and learn the songs of Jethro Tull. Once bitten, forever smitten!
"Marcie has given me faith and inspiration in my own voice and music and has added an amazingly rich, new dimension to it. She has also fuelled my interest in the subtler, acoustic Tull numbers. "
Marcie Schreier, an accomplished and versatile singer and flautist with extensive training, is American born, but has been living in Israel since 1980.
Having grown up on rock music, she later became enamored with music from the 16th-17th centuries. As a vocalist, Marcie has studied and worked with distinguished musicians in the area of Early Music, in addition to performing her own program of Renaissance and Baroque songs from Spain with accompanist and guitarist Philip Griffin.
Marcie has appeared on TV, radio, at Israel's famous Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival and at several folk and night clubs in Israel, playing rock and folk music.
Marcie first heard the music of Jethro Tull back in 1972. From that point on, there was no turning back. She cites Jethro Tull's music as her single most important musical influence.
"Hooking up with Paul has made it possible for me to really 'give something back' to the band whose music has meant so much to me over the years."

A Warm Feeling Coming Up Over Me The Mermaid, St Albans on Sat 29th Mar 08
It was a cold, rainy night in St Albans, but the welcome was warm at the Mermaid. And the warm feeling continued when the music started up. Paul Forrest and Marcie Schreier, collectively known as Sossity, performed a large, diverse selection of songs, many made famous by Jethro Tull. Paul has been the front man of the Dayglo Pirates, a superb Tull tribute act, for over ten years. He has recently teamed up with Marcie to perform some of the more intimate songs penned by Ian Anderson, along with some equally impressive original songs, which could easily have come from an Ian Anderson solo album. Marcie, who plays flute and sings a mixture of lead and harmony vocals, also comes with an amazing array of original songs.
The duo's voices blended very well together, and Paul's dexterous guitar playing was superb throughout, one particular highlight being 'Crazy Man Michael', a song made popular by Fairport Convention. Some of the Tull songs which stood out included Skating Away, Reasons for Waiting, Just Trying To Be, Wondring Again, and the rarely heard Up The Pool. The original material also shone through, displaying much wit, in particular Spanish and Never Have Enough Time Blues.
Marcie kept the audience entertained with amusing stories behind some of the songs, and how the couple originally got together. A total of 26 songs were presented, with Sossity performing for around two hours to a smallish but very appreciative audience.
All I can say, in summary, is - even better than the real thing!!

Brilliant gig The Portland Arms, St Albans on Sun 16th Mar 08
Two multi-talented musicians with a wealth of experience played their first gig as "Sossity" at the St Albans pub, The Portland Arms.
They performed Jethro Tull favourites such as Jack in the Green, Weathercock, Skating Away and Reasons for Waiting beautifully; accurately, but also adding some of their own unique style. Paul sounds like a young Ian Anderson and played and sang these very naturally, making them look easy. They interspersed these classic numbers with some of their own songs, which were excellent in their own right. Marcie gave the audience a little background information as to what these were about and when they were written, which was interesting. Sossity also played Crazy Man Michael, as done by Fairport Convention and House of the King by Focus (Saxondale theme tune!) with amazing vocals and flute work from Marcie.
Exquisite harmonies abound! Both Paul and Marcie are experienced performers and really looked like they were enjoying themselves, which gave the gig a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
If you missed getting tickets for Jethro Tull's spring tour, never fear! Go and see Sossity for a great night out, you won't regret it. (Even if you got the tickets, go and see Sossity as they will be right up your street.)

[Wed 23rd Apr 08] Paul's Night With Jethro Tull A few weeks ago, Paul Forrest received a text message from fellow "Dayglo Pirates" bandmate, bassist Steve Harrison about a "possible gig" he'd got him with Jethro Tull. Paul was to appear as a special guest at one of their shows, in honour of their 40th anniversary. Paul's initial reaction was a very practical one. He was not holding his breath, lest he be let down. But, when an email invite came in directly from Ian Anderson the following day, Paul's attitude "shifted slightly".
Subsequent emails between Ian, Paul and management were exchanged, and the night was signed and sealed!
Marcie, the other half of Sossity, who currently lives in Israel, was even able to fly out especially to be with Paul for this extraordinary event.
Paul was amazing. It was a joy to hear versions of songs like "With You There To Help Me", "Sossity", "Reasons For Waiting", "We Used To Know", and "Locomotive Breath" being performed in early Tull mode. Paul has the voice of a more youthful Ian Anderson, and it was quite interesting to see the two of them trade off flute and vocal lines.
We're all very proud of Paul, as this is quite an achievement for him and the ultimate feather in his cap.
