 Wow! What a night. The Palace Hotel, Torquay on Sat 24th Feb 07 | |
  And what a band! I've been attending the Torbay Police Ball now for the past 9 years and I've seen Soul Funktion perform many times both at the Ball and at places such as the Spinning Wheel and Ive never seen them give anything other than a good performance. However, this time they excelled themselves with a truly magnificent performance!
Besides playing great music this band exudes a polished and professional quality that is rarely seen in non or semi professional bands. Over the many years I lived in London and during frequent visits since, I have seen some very professional outfits perform in London. and can honestly say that Soul Funktion can match any performance I have seen and probably outstrip most of them!
The band's lead singer is a young man with a charismatic and versatile voice whose talent is reminiscent of Andrew Strong (Former lead singer of The Commitments), but with a style uniquely his own. Excellent backing vocals are are provided by two lovely sounding and looking females while a top class brass section add to the richness of sound with some excellent solo performances thrown in for good measure. But let's not forget the solid performance from the unsung hero's at the back; drums, bass, guitar and keyboards who keep it all together. Soul Funktion is pure magic!

What a night. The energy that Soul Funktion emit in their show is very infectious. They seem to be having a great deal of fun and are very relaxed which makes the show very enjoyable to watch. They sound great and are not stuck in playing unknown tunes that only those really into the soul scene can enjoy.
The lead singer was a real character and really tried to involve everyone there, and the drummer's solo had everyone standing to attention. It was good to have a band that don't just play the songs but play the crowd as well. | |

Folks I managed to catch your band at the Marldon carnival and I was very impressed. Great sounds, great show and a great spectacle. The crowd reaction said it all, they obviously loved you. My only moan would be that your singer on occasion did go on a bit too long with the chat. People wanted to hear you playing music and he was going on a bit sometimes, but that is a very minor complaint. I had a chat with I think it was your drummer afterwards or maybe during your break and he told me you use to play Applebys in Torquay, shame you still don't, I only live round the corner, I don't much like the pub but I would have made the effort to watch you boys and girls. In recent months I've seen the likes of Joey the lips and some other soul bands who were good but you guys do in my opinion have an edge over them. I'll keep an eye on your gigs and hope to catch you again soon.

| [Thu 21st Feb 08] (From Helen : gig at English Rivierra Centre, Torquay on 8 February 2008) : This was a great night and it was made by what I can only describe as an excellent band. From the singers to the 4 piece brass section it was a quality perfomance. The dance floor was full from start to the finish. Their blend of old and more modern soul and rock 'n' roll was brilliant.
