Great Gig! Exeter Inn, Newton Poppleford on Mon 24th Dec 07
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. rated as one of our top reviews We first heard about Steve's music from some of our locals who had been to see him elsewhere and we've been trying to book him for a long time and finally nabbed him for Christmas Eve. I'm very glad we did. Steve played a wide selection of well known material ranging all the way from Joni Mitchell to Queen, and all delivered professionally and all just the right volume and the sound of his p.a. system was one of the very best we've heard in here. There was something in there for everybody and he even included his own Christmas song which he told us had been considered for Cliff Richard's Christmas single - you missed a gem there Cliff! It was a thoroughly enjoyable performance all round. The pub was full all night long and most of our locals were up and dancing as the music got livelier. The number of sounds Steve gets out of those keyboards really is quite extraordinary and the guitar solos, even though he plays them on one of his synthesisers, are amazing. He turned what was bound to be a good night into a great night, even helping out by compering our Christmas Draw. We're looking forward to having him here again very soon. I'm surprised he isn't booked 365 days a year!

good night out Newton Poppleford Village Hall, Sidmouth on Fri 28th Sep 07
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. I approached Steve to play at the village carnival dance after seeing him play at several local pubs. He couldn't have been easier or more helpful to deal with even helping with posters and publicity!

the evening came and Steve turned up nice and early to set up and sound check.

Sadly we were a bit low on numbers attending the dance but this did not dampen the spirit. I think this was a first time in my memory that every single person in the hall was up and on the dance floor at the same time! Not even one wallflower left in the corner drinking their beer.

All in all a very enjoyable night out with excellent quality playing singing and sound and a good mix of material.

25th Wedding Anniversary on Sat 14th Jul 07
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Having seen Steve at many gigs and pubs before, we particularly wanted him for our 25th wedding anniversary party! We had a fantastic evening on sat 14th July and a good time was had by all! Our age group was literally from my son at 18 to my father at 80 and Steve's music gave us all a chance to have a good old bop during the evening.

For days after, party goers young and not so young, commented on what a good set Steve had put on.

I would really recommend Steve Watts for a party of this nature anytime!

Steve rocks Bishop! Bishop John, Bishopsteignton on Fri 25th May 07
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Steve played brilliantly on Friday the 25th May. He interacts well with his audience and plays and sings superbly. The songs Steve chose for his set were well received by the crowd as the songs were all well known. We have re-booked Steve to play in October for the Halloween celebration. He played exceptionally and we would highly recommend him.

Blog
[Thu 25th Oct 07] Not much happening at the mome... Not much happening at the moment other than being interviewed tonight for a feature in a local paper, but the main reason for blogging today was to say thanks to Pete at The Village Inn for reinstating my booking on 24th November after my gig at Woodbury Park on the same night was cancelled. What a gent!
(click for larger picture)[Thu 3rd May 07] FANTASTIC! I can't tell you ju... FANTASTIC! I can't tell you just what great fun it was playing on John Govier's birthday show on Tuesday at the Reel Cinema in Plymouth. As well as going live-to-radio at 10pm, the whole show was filmed by BBC Spotlight and beamed live to the internet which is a historic first for them. I was a brilliant day with a real fun atmosphere from start to finish despite the pressures for setting up in time and keeping the show together. The audience in the cinema were wonderful - clapping and singing along in all the right places (mostly!). As well as playing on my own I also accompanied "Andy from Bodmin"... a contributor to the regular show who has become notorious for his
spectacularly bad singing. Luckily for me the monitors were down for most of the song so I couldnt hear him! Well done though - what a brave bloke. The crowd responded really well to my songs and playing the show out was hilarious - I was performing Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday" and the idea was that I would repeat the last chorus until someone told me to stop - this was to allow them to fade to the pips and the news. What actually happened was that noone
told me to stop! I was finally brought to a halt after what seemed like hours when John Coates ran on to the stage and put his jacket over my head and JG pretended to unplug my gear whilst telling the audience "we've got to shut him up somehow!". It turned out that they had gone to the news in the 2nd chorus! I have to thank everybody there for such a brilliant and memorable day. Thanks to all from the Beeb for being so welcoming and treating all the local musicians who were performing with as much care and respect as they gave the celebs, and thanks to Matt Woodley for an absolutely outstanding engineering job. As a musician I am very proud to have been invited on to the show by JG and as a former studio engineer I am proud of Matt describing my sound as "wonderfully clean". What a day!
[Wed 28th Mar 07] Just a quickie to say a big th... Just a quickie to say a big thank you to the crowd at The Village Inn on Saturday. It's been a slow start to the year and I was feeling a bit down about my music... but embarrassingly huge cheers all night and demands for three encores (especially the last one when you all made me go back on stage and turn everything on again) was a huge boost to my confidence. Cheers!... see you all later in the year.
[Thu 25th Jan 07] Last night I went into the Can... Last night I went into the Cannon Inn in Newton Poppleford to book a room for one of my friends to stay in. With this in mind, I asked James the landlord if he had his diary handy. His reply was "How about April 6th?".
If only all my bookings came that easily!

[Fri 25th Aug 06] Hi Steve, Thanks for helping out 'Traffic Jam' last Thursday at the Village Inn jam session. You were great as always. - Graham
Reply from Steve Watts: Cheers Graham - it was really good fun as always. Maybe next time if the band all chip in 10p we can put 50p in the meter and have the lights on!
