Rating 6/6 : Brilliant Black Horse gig The Black Horse, High Barnet on Fri 6th Nov 09
The Black Horse's page The first time I saw you there in April I couldn't believe it. Obviously I was looking forward to last Friday and was not disappointed! I took my friends along and they were absolutely 'gob-smacked'. Loved 'Sweet Dreams' and 'Unchain My Heart' arrangements. However I must say that the AC/DC number at the end was absolutely fantastic. It brought the house down! You are a really good band - you should be playing at bigger venues. I can't wait to see you again and am looking forward to the gig list for next year. Keep them coming! Brian.

Rating 4/6 : Good Hot chick The Black Horse, High Barnet on Fri 3rd Apr 09
The Black Horse's pagerated as one of our top reviews  When Suzi takes to the stage it's hard to notice the four guys backing her.

This rock chick, looking like a throwback to the punk era, dominates the stage as she gyrates to the rocking sounds.

At the Black Horse this five-piece outfit played (albeit rather too loudly) to a mainly enthusiastic crowd, some of whom seemed to be trying to relive their youth.

Suzi has a powerful, gutsy voice which she demonstrated to great effect on the soulful tunes "Mercy" (the Duffy one) and Erma Franklin's powerhouse ballad "Piece Of My Heart".

But she's equally at home belting out punk songs by the likes of the Buzzcocks and Undertones; or tackling rock classics like "The Boys Are Back In Town", "Won't Get Fooled Again" and the Stones' "Sympathy For the Devil", which was probably the highlight of their two-hour performance.

The band are really competent players and lead guitarist Mike Loughlin surprised everyone when he wandered round the pub while still playing a Tom Petty tune.

Suzi has appeared with a lot of acts over the years (including singing backing vocals on a Gary Glitter track: probably best forgotten) but she seems to have found some soulmates in this group.

The Hotlicks make regular appearances at the Barnet pub. Try to catch them. But please turn down the volume next time.

Rating 6/6 : Brilliant Great Gig but... The Black Horse, High Barnet on Fri 3rd Apr 09
The Black Horse's page I thought this was a fantastic group and a lot of attention had been given to very good arrangements. In particular I loved the classic oldies - Don't Get Fooled Again, Sweet Dreams, Running Down a Dream. The arrangement of Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive is the best I've heard. The overall presentation was excellent. Unfortunately I have to agree with Colin Fenn that the music was too loud for the singer. If they could adjust the balance - please - they would be even more fantastic. Have seen and been involved with many groups over the years so do understand these things. Well done - hope to see you all again soon.

Brian.

Rating 6/6 : Brilliant rocked the house The Wheatsheaf, Enfield on Sat 21st Feb 09
Suzi and the Hotlicks Played to a packed house at the Wheatsheaf last night. A covers band with a difference. The audience young and old were up and jumping about to the sounds of the Cult, the Hives, the Buzzcocks, Blondie and many more foot stomping numbers. The singer Suzi, although a tiny woman has a belting voice and the rhythm section are one of the tightest I have heard in a long time. The guitarist left the stage and made his way through the crowd while playing a brilliant solo on Todd Rundgren's "Runnin down a dream". Encores included a Led Zep and AC/DC number and rounded off with a mellow but powerful Stormy Monday. I would highly recommend going to see this lot and take your dancing shoes!
