Tavi Jam Night[Acoustic / Experimental / Folk / Rock]

Regular Jam session hosted by Dave Rich.
We provide a small PA and have a large range of styles and performers - from folk to rock.
All are welcome to come and do their bit - we run a 3 songs each system, and if there's time then we'll go around again.
We do not allow backing tracks, this is about live music ;)
The Jam is the last thursday of every month. | |

A friendly atmosphere and a very well attended evening, featuring all styles of music - as long as it's live (no backing tracks please)

 Music and murals Tavistock Inn, Tavistock on Thu 30th Nov 06 | |
   Dave regularly drives in the opposite direction to enliven the Bovey Acoustic night, so we decided to return the compliment and visit his night at home in Tavi.
It was apparently a quiet night compared to the usual turnout. Despite that, Dave launched into the evening with his customary enthusiasm, and was followed by Pat Orchard all the way from southern Africa via Plymouth with an echoplex/effects-driven set comparable to the 70's John Martyn - well worth catching.
The evening was definitely an open-mic night rather than a jam, with a number of entertaining singers accompanying themselves on a strummed acoustic. That being said, one or two of them were accompanied by a young lad on bass, who was definitely busking on a few numbers, but held his own very well. Julz from DRB drummed on a couple, as well.
We had to leave before the end (a combination of age, work in the morning and the weather...) The audience had remained sparse all evening - a real pity. Still, we'll be back and I'm sure the audience will be as well.
One final mention: the murals in the Gents toilet. Well worth a visit even if there's no music on. Try to combine the two, however. | |
