He looks around to find the source of the voice. But again, he doesn't see anyone. The bartender notices him looking around and asks if everything is okay. The man explains that he's hearing small voices.

Gorgeous Girls Give Great Gig O'Neill's Bar, St Albans on Sat 19th Apr 08
It's not every day that you encounter a band on a mission to blow all the obvious, tired covers clean out of the water... which is exactly what the Natalies did last night. They may have a girl's name, and they may have a grooving entourage of young dancing girls, happy to shimmy and shake under the disco illuminations, but (without being sexist here) the Natalies are very much All Bloke.
This four piece has obviously worked hard to re-create not only the sounds of the original 70s, 80s and 90s covers, but also the phrasing of the words and the note-for-note (and hit-for-hit!) precision of each song.
"Hungry Like The Wolf" takes you back to when the UK used to have a weekly pop chart show called "Top of the Pops", and you could sing and dance along to songs that you decided - there, on the spot - that you were going out to buy on Saturday.
"Town Called Malice" had the audience singing along (I wonder if they would do the same in Guildford?...), "My Sharona" was played with the original dynamic fever, and the superb Elton John cover "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" had most of us foot-tapping away, nervously hoping perhaps that we weren't actually in a 1970s Lincolnshire pub. Phew.
These 4 players have a passion that is still fresh, and it shows. They played with enthusiasm, precision and a certain amount of self-assuredness that still felt friendly, rather than aloof. A good sound mix, with the drumming not too loud (so the whole volume level was reasonable)... a large (luxurious, in fact) stage with a good viewing area... altogether a really entertaining evening!
| Mac MacLaren, Lemonrock Editor, Sun 20th Apr 08 | |
Reply from The Natalies: Thanks Mac, very pleased you could make it and glad you enjoyed the evening. Great venue to play and a good crowd. We shall continue the mission - lock up your daughters Lincolnshire!
Fan-tastic The Mermaid, St Albans on Sat 26th Jan 08
The evening didn't start well. I thought that a band called the Natalies would have been a collection of leather clad girl-band types, and sadly I was disappointed. However the feeling didn't last and the minute the band struck up, I knew it was going to be a great night - the band cover such musical ground there was something for everyone and in a cramped, hot and steamy pub the place was rocking.
The main difference with this band over so many others is not relying on the same old same old (Stairway anyone?) to get them by - if you can dance to it, they play it and play it well. They featured some superb guitar work, synth madness and frantic yet spot-on drum and bass work.
Personal highlights had to be the Blondie and Buggles numbers - The Natalies obviously have NO shame, and are all the better for it! When they ripped into Michael Jackson I was totally floored...
I can't recommend the band enough and it really is superb to have some new life in what can sometimes feel a tired music scene - not a sign of any 'blooze' in the house, and it was bliss!
| Mick, Sun 27th Jan 08 | |
Reply from The Natalies: Thanks Mick - appreciate the kind words - we aim to please. Look out for further 'shameless' coverology when we're back in May!
Cheers, all the girls! | |
Born again pleasure The Mermaid, St Albans on Sat 26th Jan 08
OK, I am biased, it was my birthday night, and I knew I was gonna have a good time anyway... live band, great pub... but I have to say that The Natalies made my day one to remember... unpretentious, good, solid, rock and very accessible pop covers, all the guys played with dedication and energy. You couldn't help dancing to Elvis Costello, The Jam, hits from the 80s to the present day, all done accurately and with a clear sound where all the instruments were easily picked out. Top band - well above your average pub band, and adding a new layer of professionalism to live pub music.
| Steve, Thu 7th Feb 08 | |
Reply from The Natalies: Hi Steve, its great to get such a positive response. Great pub, cool crowd and we had a lot of fun. Looking forward to our return in May. Cheers, The Nats
Wicked Inn on the Green, Harpenden on Thu 27th Sep 07
I had to write a review! We have a lot of bands at the Inn, every week, but these guys have been my favourite. Brilliant mix of music, plenty to dance too (sorry guys - the stomach flops were a bad idea) and I enjoyed the chat with the band members.
Not many bands can carry off a set like that, but the Natalies manage it. I hope they'll be back.

[Fri 15th Jun 07] Sorry folks! The gig at the B... Sorry folks! The gig at the Blacksmith's Arms on the 23rd has had to be cancelled due to us finding out about the venues built-in noise limiter! To keep the techy boringness to a minimum, these are traditionally set at such a low level that they cut the power to the band when the slightest peak is reached. This causes damage to equipment and more worryingly can really disrupt the nights entertainment.
So, we're sorry! We're trying to get another gig that night, so keep a close eye on Lemonrock for more information! | [Thu 31st May 07] Hey everyone!
Just a note to ... Hey everyone!
Just a note to say that as of today, we will no longer be maintaining our Myspace page and it is scheduled for deletion.
It's just become too much aggro, fighting the spammers, freeloaders and people who just want to tell me I can get a free iPod.
So, from this point onwards, Lemonrock and our own website (at www.thenatalies.co.uk) are the ONLY places that you will find the latest Natalies-related news, gig listings and (very shortly) our recently-recorded demo material.
Sorry to all our Myspace friends, but we'll have to love you and leave you! | [Wed 25th Apr 07] New website for The Natalies!
