An exciting new band based in St Albans. Fronted by guitarist vocalists Martin Rollings and Alan Russell, with Terry Cockell and Steve Maton providing the powerhouse rhythm section on Drums and Bass. As individuals their experience includes many years on the Rock and Indie circuit, TOTP's appearances, Janice Long sessions, hundreds of pub rock gigs and thousands of studio hours. The set list spans the past 30 years of rock - from Cream, Hendrix and the Stones via REM, Clash and Oasis to The Zutons, Green Day and more - you get the idea!  Ta Zeffs! The Robin Hood, St Albans on Sun 23rd Dec 07 | |
   The Red Zephyrs only formed a few months ago but they appear to have several centuries of previous behind them. (And yards of footswitches in front of them!) They are probably already getting as many gigs as other St. Albans covers-gods Deaf Shepherd, and maybe for the same reasons: excellent skills, good equipment, attention to detail, interesting and not-always-safe repertoire. Both, too, talk to the audience as if they are there. And, for the Zeffs, some management thrown in too, no doubt, which is clearly not a bad thing.
The Robin Hood on a Sunday teatime is a gig that doesn't always work, with its mixed clientele of dedicated local music followers and those who are simply VERY late going home for their lunch, but the staff were friendly and fast, the band rocked out and it felt like Saturday night. Badge, by Cream - what a little gem! Maybe some bands would pass it over as too easy or obvious, but it's a perfect song of its type and earns lots of cheesy grins. They finished the first set with Whisky in the Jar, and what was missing? Nothing! We loved it! Personally I could always do without any Police numbers - none at all is still too many; to me they are musically clever but a triumph of style over soul - but you certainly know the quality and range of a band when they play them well.
Now, when will we see some original material? I'm sure it's in there. | |

 What a fantastic atmosphere! The place was full and buzzing. The songs were great and the band covered artists including The Clash, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Cream.
It was great to see a band enjoying themselves so much and this really rubbed off on the crowd who all had a great time. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who enjoys live rock and a good vibe! | |

| I wasn't keen on going to see this unknown, local group at The Robin Hood in December, but I'm so glad I was persuaded to as I'd have missed one of best bands I've seen and heard in years. They are so professional and musically brilliant - the atmosphere in the pub was electric. Their rendition of 'Badge' was just fantastic. Can Alan really be "Rusty"? I fell in love with him and his music back in 1973, when he played at the Poulton Vic - he was good then but he and the rest of the band are amazing now. I strongly recommend going to see them. | |

| I didn't go to Maddens because this band were playing. I had never heard of the Red Zephyrs. However when their sound check included "Never met a girl" by Edwyn Collins and "Whiskey in the jar" by Thin Lizzy, I just had to stay for the gig and I am very glad I did! I haven't been treated to such an evening's music in a long time. The energy this band give off is amazing. They play and sing each song like they really mean it. By the end of the gig, the whole place erupted! No one wanted it to end! If you get the chance go and see them. I definitely will. Fantastic! | |
