WOW - don't miss this band!! AbaKus on Sat 24th Feb 07
AbaKus's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page.  What a setting! - A Medieval-type set added to the atmosphere for this gig forming an unusual stage with an upper floor, which might have proved constricting for another band, but Abukus pulled it off and were as amazing as ever.

The lead singer, Jay, is a whirlwind - with all the moves of Mick Jagger, Michael Hutchence and Jim Morrison rolled into one! Simon Craddock (lead guitar) gave us a stunning version of 'Sultans of Swing' and Adam and Dave provided a solid, pounding backbeat on bass and drums.

The band's version of 'You Really Got Me' starts slowly with a moody riff. Brilliant! This is the kind of performing that makes Abakus more than just a covers band. They excel in taking well known and much loved numbers, rework them and then inject their own unique twist of something special. Take, for example, their version of Loui Loui, which is haunting and compelling enough to send shivers down your spine...

Proving versatliity with numbers ranging from Free and Bad Company to the Kaiser Chiefs and the Monkees, these guys really can take it all on.

Abakus are a band to keep an eye on in future. If they are due to play at a venue near you - go and see them. Or, if you have to travel just that little bit further to catch their act, then, take it from me, they are well worth the effort!
