ecstatic landlord Electric Landlady on Sat 8th Mar 08
I first met Pete, the lead singer of 'Landlady' when he came to watch 'Max' last year here at The Weary Traveller. Having already read some of the reviews here on Lemonrock I was more than happy to book the band and fill the last couple of Saturday nights for 2008 - and I'm certainly glad that I did.
Electric Landlady proved be consummate musicians from the very start - even warming up with 'The Sound Check Blues' you knew they could perform. Opening with Hawkwind's 'Silver Machine' and then going straight into my favourite of the night, Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in The Wall' - the classic rock hits of the 70's just got better and better.
Now I am no musician so I'll refer you to the other reviews here on Lemonrock from people who are far more qualified and can enthuse eloquently about the technical merits of their show - but as a pub landlord just the right side of fifty (if there is such a thing) who enjoys all live music and can appreciate quality musicianship - especially when it's the music from youth - I cannot recommend these boys enough.
So those of you who organise venue bookings give this band a call - you will not regret it. Five talented musicians - superb 70's twin guitar rock - 2 sets of approximately 75 minutes each (thats an extra hour to the norm) - great value for those hard earned pounds we have to pay.
Once again to Ian, Pete and the boys many thanks for a great night's entertainment!

Reply from Electric Landlady: Hey Steve! Thanks for the booking! Many venues are pretty conservative with their bookings. If you haven't played before, you won't get booked! More power to you, my friend for taking a gamble on us. We're glad it paid off and very pleased that you enjoyed our show so much - and have been so thoughtful as to recommend us here! Five people (you included) told us that they thought we were one of the very best bands to have played at your venue. The Weary rocks!
proclaiming The Disclaimers The Disclaimers on Sat 1st Mar 08
A new name to the Weary in Cully and as a duo, a new format - we normally stick to bands with four members or more - but these boys have all the kit - an excellent PA with (I guess) some backing tape - maybe not to everyone's taste or for the true musos - but the sound and acoustics were rich and impressive. The boys themselves were talented guitarists and vocalists, but it was the choice of sets that was particularly impressive. There was literally something for everyone from Queen, Pink Floyd, Elvis and The Beatles - to The Clash, Thin Lizzy, Ronan and our locals even got to finish the night by shaking a leg to a rendition of the Rocky Horror Show's "time warp". It may not have been the busiest night here at the Weary but those that were here had an excellent night's entertainment - I can't recommend these boys highly enough. Great sounds, and as a businessman, from my point of view - great value.

Very Enjoyable! Max on Sat 15th Dec 07
Pete (singer in Electric Landlady) and I popped in to see my mate Tom on drums and to see Big Norm again as it had been too long! He is always good value.
I hadn't seen Tom play with Max before and I must say I was impressed. I loved the Moby Dick drum solo sans sticks! The concentration on his face at times was palpable. He's a very physical drummer and good to watch.
Big Norm was having fun and playing his usual, brilliant chops. It's a shame his guitar was a bit buried in the mix at times, but then I'm a guitarist and probably say that about most gigs I see! His only fault was making everything seem so easy. I'll have to have a word with the union about that. It's not fair on us lesser (pun intended) mortals!
I hadn't seen the rest of Max before. I didn't catch the bassist and the keyboard players' names but they played their roles really well and were on the ball with all the right sounds and parts.
Star of the show for us was Les, the wee lass at the front. Her energy and enthusiasm was infectious. She didn't half work hard! Songs that stood out were Sparks' "This Town Ain't Big Enough", Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright", Alex Harvey's "Delilah" and "Time Warp" from the Rocky Horror Show. She'd obviously put in the preparation beforehand and knew them really well. They aren't the easiest songs to sing, especially when dancing around so much!
We left having been royally entertained to the MAX and are determined to see them again.
Thanks guys!

Reply from Max: Hi Ian & Pete
We're glad you enjoyed the show; it was a fantastic first gig at The Weary for us.
Its great that nice people like yourself post reviews as feedback from the audience is always appreciated.
We'll try and get down to the Village on the 4th Jan and return the compliment.
Have a great Christmas see you next year :o)
Big Norm

What another great night at The Weary Traveller with 'Meness'. This band proves once again what live music is all about. Their sound was spot on and even got me dancing... they just play the right songs. Thanks guys - I had helluva night, I can't wait till you're back in Cullompton again.

|
| Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
