Winston's, Seaton Electric Landlady on Sat 19th May 07
Electric Landlady's pageReview edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Seaton's 'Lloyds the Chemist' staff were out in force on Sat 19th May to see their boss Ian and his Eclectic Landlord (sorry Electric Landlady band!) strut their stuff.

The venue is an excellent one (unlike the regular Sidmouth Black Horse venue) as it's large enough for folk like me to strut my own stuff while band members entertain the thongs (whoops sorry,... 'throngs!). A 9.30pm start is however a little early for most Seaton nightowls but this proved to be a gentle warm up routine for around 40 mins before the 2nd half began punctured in between 'sets' by great pop songs played by the DJ.

After the half time break the place really began to 'rock' with classic 70's rock hits and excellent covers played by the band but also by the introduction of the 1970's cartoon characters The Flintstones (Wilma looking particularly delightful). Dave the Drummer boy caught the eye in my view but only because I am a closet drummer myself who can play the best air drums anywhere!

And so close to the witching hour, time was called and the end was nigh. This 'Freebird' had to fly home. But a really great time was had by all and this particular Seaton resident (aged well below 50 by the way!) looks forward to being entertained again in the near future.

Incidentally, one word of constructive criticism: when you get the audience 'up on the floor' sometimes you have to then chop and change your own set in order to keep em there! But, hey, you're the professionals not me!

Keep on rocking in the free world !

Reply from Electric Landlady: Welcome to Planet Earth Darren! Glad you had a lovely night out; we thought your air drums, guitar, bass, keyboards & triangle were excellent! Can't agree that the Black Horse isn't excellent too, its just not so large as Winstons. The punters at EACH place know how to have a good time! We certainly play our best when we have comely fancy dress cavegirls cavorting in front of us! Should be made compulsory! I'll pass on your compliments to Dave Drummer, did you know that he is in fact The STIG?
Mind Blowing! Sweet Black Angels on Sat 22nd Oct 05
Review edited by Lemonrock to improve readability, by consent of the band/artist, or owner of the page. Not knowing too much about Sweet Black Angels I waited to be impressed and wasn't disappointed. Their range of covers was good and played with great pleasure you could see the lads were enjoying their music but not as much as when they performed their original material - a word not seen a lot in this world we live.

The strange thing was I found myself smiling and singing to songs I had never heard before, every now and again you would here a little hook or lick from the band that would carry on through the song and made me convinced that I had been listening to the track all my life.

Although these lads were mind-blowing I feel the night should have ended after their last original track 'These Days', but they came back on and did a verson of 'Feel Like Making Love' which wasn't their strongest track.

If you enjoy your live music and get the chance to see this band then take it: you won't be disappointed.
