 Not a venue for blues/rock! Julian Carter on Sun 7th May 06 | |
  Ok, so I'm reviewing my own gig, but it might help some of you guys out there.
This was not a successful gig for me and I'll certainly not be going back.
The club is a typical old fashioned working man's club, and I was receiving rude comments and behaviour from the very beginning. I knew that I'd have to play quietly, even though it was a huge room, but the staff complained bitterly anyway. And I was playing at about half the volume I practise at in my room at home! I'm not sure what music they like there, but it certainly wasn't Clapton, Santana, and Steely Dan. They didn't even like The Eagles, The Beatles, Oasis or Paul Weller. Maybe a few Vera Lynn songs would have done the trick, who knows?
If you're a soloist or in a band and you play rocky stuff... don't play here.
Having said that, I was of course, brilliant! (Ha ha!)

| Reply from Julian Carter: Me again! I discovered that I had another gig booked here, so I phoned the agent to cancel it, worried that he might be a bit upset.
Apparently the venue had just called to cancel me, and the agent was worried about telling me!
So that's alright then!
And Vera Lynn gets a booking this year. | |

Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
