Absolute Bowie [David Bowie Tribute Band, 5 piece]
It's great to see an act who really know their stuff. The five-piece band Absolute Bowie recreate David Bowie's music and stage act with an uncanny accuracy.
In the first set the band bring Bowie's early years back to life. Fans just lap it up as they perform with great skill the big hits from the sixties and seventies. Close your eyes and you could be listening to the real thing as the band work their way through 'Space Oddity', 'Suffragette City', 'The Jean Genie', 'Oh, You Pretty Things', 'Changes' and 'Life On Mars', among others. Lead singer 'Halloween Jack' is David Bowie. He has the mannerisms, the actions and the voice. He has obviously spent years perfecting his art.
After a 20 minute break the band are back on stage but now the early Bowie (complete with heavy make-up and glam image) has gone to be replaced by the Bowie of the eighties wearing a smart white suit. The music has changed too -- with the emphasis on dance music. All the classics are there again -- 'Sound And Vision', 'Fame', 'Young Americans', 'Let's Dance', 'China Girl', 'Rebel Rebel' and 'Modern Love'.
For the encore there are two more unbeatable classics-- and the crowd are happy to join in with 'Under Pressure' and 'Heroes'.
Absolute Bowie is absolutely fabulous. Next time the band are in town, don't miss them.
