Miranda Sykes has been ‘on the road’ as a singer, guitarist and bass player for 25 years since the age of seventeen. Since 2004, she has been best known for her collaboration with Show of Hands but she has also toured with other bands, in duos and as a soloist.Despite the horror of the uncertainty and sadness it brought, the Covid 19 pandemic also offered a time of reflection whilst ‘normal’ life ground to a halt and spawned a new way for many to access live music through the internet. Performing three-weekly concerts on Facebook between chemotherapy cycles for breast cancer became a lifeline for Miranda, reminding her of her own identity during a dark time. It also became a lifeline for many people who were unable to leave their homes to enjoy the music they love. Because of these concerts, Miranda decided to record a CD at home and ask her online audience to choose the songs to be featured on it. The resulting album, was The Farmhouse Sessions which covers the whole of Miranda’s career and is a celebration of life and love in all its forms. This concert is an opportunity for her to bring these beautiful songs to life on stage and use her voice to spread hope and happiness for all our futures.Two performers will be supporting Miranda in this festival concert. New Roots 2022 finalist Alex Jenkins plays a variety of folk music from around the British isles, using a combination of recorder, harp and bodhran. He is especially interested in the traditional music of Wales.
