29 Nov 2015The Misty Moon, Chipping Barnet 21/11/2015This was our first time at The Misty Moon and also our first gig for some time. To be honest it wasn't one of our best shows as we had two stand-in band members with minimal rehearsal time. As if that wasn't a challenge in itself we had also added some new songs to the set - some which the band hasn't played for many years due to to lineup changes, and also some the band has never played before. Consequently, the first set got off to a bit a shaky start, but we were soon rockin'!We had our own light show for the first time thanks to Jason - who managed to bring his own lighting setup as well as his bass rig! There was a good vibe in the place as there was also a 30th birthday being celebrated at the back of the pub - so naturally we had to play our party anthem - The Beastie Boys 'Fight For Your Right (to Party)'! No problems with the PA this time, and two of us had radio wireless systems for our guitars which worked great and gave us a lot more freedom of movement - it can be a real pain constantly tripping over/getting tangled up in guitar leads.Regular drummer Adam not being available meant we had John helping out on the drums instead, and as guitarist Pete was on 'Holiday In Cambodia' (yes really!) we had Pete doing a great job on guitar - maybe we should call them 'P1' and 'P2'?There was more 1950's rock & roll in the set than usual, as well as our usual mix of punk classics and 1970's/80's rock - the old school rock & roll seemed to go down best and got more people singing and dancing, although it's surprising how well songs by The Clash, Sex Pistols and Undertones go down with many pub crowds these days. The way New York punks The Ramones put their twist on old rock & roll songs like 'Do You Wanna Dance' and 'Let's Dance' really gets people going too.It was nice to have a bit more room to stretch out than some of the places we play, and we enjoyed the Saturday night party vibe - which we think we added to. The management really liked us as well and it looks like we will be back playing at the Misty Moon sooner rather than later. Thanks to everyone who came to see us - expect more of the same in 2016....
