Chris Hartgroves [Jazz, 4 piece]
Hello, I'm a double & electric bassist for classical / jazz / interesting-other music (folk, blues, country avant-garde, theatre-involved, w.h.y.) around St. Albans.I play in the St Albans Symphony Orchestra (SASO), three Big Bands - the St Albans Jazz Ensemble (STAJE), the Hertfordshire Big Band (HBB), and Herts Swing.I'm also with several small jazz bands - Treble Clef (often at the Holly Bush, Redbourn on a Friday lunchtime), Semafour (mostly at the Rose and Crown, Sandridge, every month), Lulu and the Hulabaloos (see their Lemonrock page), and the Watling Jazz Trio.I'm now also with the Phoenix Mandolins, and do various occasional one-offs and deps, etc.You can find pages I maintain for STAJE and Treble Clef, with some other gigs (including SASO) listed on my 'gigs' page, (though they're not 'my' bands).'Normal service' is being resumed (July 2021). Meanwhile, some of my musician friends have had Covid, and some have lingering after-effects, so please be patient, and keep safe while supporting live music in all its forms.I enjoy playing locally with like-minded souls, building a reputation as a reliable resource. I'm no longer interested in doing one-nighters in Swindon or Derby, but happy to travel half on hour for rehearsals, an hour for gigs. I have good gear, and transport.I've played in all sorts of bands over the years (Rock, Jazz-Rock, Country, Latin, Blues, Folk) and would like to get involved with good eclectic / crossover projects bringing folk, jazz, and classical ideas together. Double bass is my main thing (acoustic or electric upright), but I've always got fretted and fretless bass guitars to hand.
