The Crimea Inn in Aldershot is one of our favourite venues, and when Ray and Jan say jump, we say, "That's our cue for Dakota!" and EVERYONE jumps. We are indebted to the men and women of our armed forces, on a one-week break from duty in Afghanistan, who decided they needed to party and party they did, even breaking our cardinal rule and taking over the mics! It made What's Up absolutely EPIC! By the time the Dickster announced that he was having Sex (on Fire) with everyone, we'd jumped, shouted, sung, sweated and generally got more than a little bit messy with the people of Aldershot and the surrounding areas. The Cherries pulled out all the stops and played a blinder. We say that, even acknowledging that Dick forgot not only the lyrics, but also the names of our loyal Aldershot followers! And this was after bragging that he hadn’t been on the lash the night before! We've never seen such a lovely bunch of singing, dancing, looning lovelies. Yup, even the men. 3 Sep 2017Crimea Inn, AldershotI believe it was no less an artist than LL Cool J who once said, "Don't call it a comeback!" The mighty Cherries had been on a bit of a sabbatical. They were, in the parlance of our time, 'away'. And they had been missed. But, they have now returned from their various travels older, wiser and even in one particular instance, bearded (albeit not to ZZ Top levels of hirsute-ness, but definitely more be-whiskered than previously). They descended on that stronghold of the Lovers of the Rock, the Crimea Inn in Aldershot, with a sense of renewed purpose and (we are not afraid to use the word) ambition. And they brought the house down! Leggings were worn. Hats were donned. Telecasters (and, to be completely accurate, an Esquire) were attacked with vigour. The crowd danced, sang, dove to the floor (no, really - full face-plant mode!) and even conga-ed! Dick celebrated landlady Jan's birthday with a rousing Happy Birthday AND by proposing (what, again? And in front of husband Ray?). It helped that the 'Shots had won 1-0 earlier, as the locals were ready to celebrate in style, if by style one means drinking, singing, hugging and enjoying themselves thoroughly! And enjoy themselves they did, as did the boys in the band. Even the heckling got better as the Cherries rocked into the early morning. Loads of regulars and several new faces, too, singing and dancing along sent the energy levels through the roof! But let me tell you about the most recent, at the Crimea Inn in Aldershot.On a rainy evening, we had one of the best crowds we've ever played for last weekend. We wowed them with Staci's Mom, floored them a bit of Sex (on Fire), and they Time Warp(ed) superbly! By the time we (I Predict a ) Riot(ed), folks were screaming at the top of their lungs and even playing TC's tambourine (he doesn't encourage this, BTW!). 19 Sep 2016Crimea Inn, AldershotAh, the Crimea Inn in Aldershot. One of our favourite places to play. We were thrilled to see landlady Jan fit and well, and that landlord Ray was in his usual fine form, too. The crowd were obviously ready to rock, as we got multiple requests for Foo Fighters - we managed to shoehorn All My Life into the second set, even if TC was a bit confused at the beginning as to precisely which Foos tune this was (he has since been reprimanded severely). DC also learned a lesson - not to request the numbers of married women through the mic ("It was a misunderstanding!", he insists)! Oh, how we laughed, including the husband! But these light-hearted diversions could never sway our determination to rock the socks off of the people of Aldershot (and the surrounding areas).
