The Crown, Aston End [Pub / Restaurant]

Mice with Glasses are a genuinely interesting band. I'll take all aspects of the night in turn:
1). Crowd - the only thing a band can't influence! The crowd LOVED the band, with the dancefloor being packed from the start of the second half and beer/wine and sweat being sprayed in all directions. If a band is solely judged on audience reaction MwG really cracked it tonight.
2). Set list - a very good set with modern songs by the Kings of Leon and the Kaiser Chiefs. Either MwG are visionaries, or I missed the point of the set list, as often songs from the same band were only slightly separated from each other - this did feel a little weird.
3). Sound quality. From time-to-time the overall sound quality was very thin. The bass player and guitarist didn't give the 'wall of sound' that was sometimes needed - there was some good gear here, but it could have benefited from some further tweaking to get a fuller sound going. I also have to say that I have never heard such a quiet drummer! His technique is obviously there, but without actually concentrating on watching his arms, I could barely tell he was playing! In fact, this was the only gig I've ever attended where the tambourine was louder than the drums. I'm not sure if the band were under the thumb with noise constraints, but in future the drums need to come to the fore to give a more powerful sound.
Overall this was a gig I really enjoyed, I think MwG have a good thing going on and with more polish in the sound and possible development of the set list they could grow into a band you shouldn't miss.
In terms of the venue, the pub was rammed - the huge car park swallowed all the cars up well and getting a drink was still easy. If it hadn't been for the loose bowels of some of my fellow dancers, the atmosphere would have been perfect!

Having not seen Hit'n'Run for about 8 or 9 years, I wasn't sure how they would have changed! Would they still have that same warmth with their audience, the humour, the energy and the passion?
When they started playing, they were better than ever!
They played a wide range of songs, old and new, all of which we enjoyed. The audience were buzzing and by the second half, had got up dancing!
It is clear that Tony and Chris enjoy what they do, and that comes out in their music and rubs off on their audience!
Tony's voice was exceptional, he really has got a fantastic range. Chris's talent still amazes me... that man can pick up any instrument and play it to perfection. He is a pure genius of a musician!

Saturday 23 June 2007Hey Mary, how nice it was to see you again after all these years. Chris and I are still at it, and still enjoying it as much as ever. It makes it more worth while when we read nice comments about us! I hope more people read this, and come along to see what all the fuss is about! Thanks again
