DeLorean [Rock Covers, 5 piece]

Hi, watched you at the Woughton Centre today - one of the best bands we have had in very long time!!!! Love your singer especially - he has the moves, the looks and the voice! The rest of the band were really great too!!!! You need to do more Bon Jovi - your singer sounds just like him!!!! Brilliant band, brilliant afternoon!!!! Thanks and hope to see you all soon!!!! Rick

I saw you guys at Music On The Moor on Sturday and thought you were awesome!!! Honestly, you were the best band of the whole day and I thought that your version of We Will Rock You, was actually better than the Queen tribute act (who were also very good!).

Caught some of your set at Music on the Moor. 80s rock (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard etc.) is not really my thing but I can still appreciate quality musicianship and professionalism when I see it and that set you apart from many of the other bands. Seemed to go down very well with the crowd too. Thought the Lizzy track was great.

The Unicorn - last night.. Wow! Just, wow. I dont care what anyone else says, you guys kick Scandal/Daytona Rain, in fact everybody's arses. I always get my live music fix at the 'corn and have seen them all. The other bands we have down here play everything, just playing safe to please everyone, you boys know what you like and you play it perfect - you bloody well rocked the roof off last night. Can I just say - Your cover of Rebel Yell was ACES. I've seen Billy live a couple of times and I can safely say that you were bang on. I left the pub knackered and happy!! If every venue knew how good you were, you'd be booked every week, I'm certain of it. I'll be keeping an eye out for you! Will write a review if I get time - sorry just in case I dont though!

Having seen a ton of bands at the Unicorn, I can safely say that these guys are the best so far. We normally have bands like Gravity, Scandal, Daytona Rain etc etc who are very good - don't get me wrong - but in terms of being rock bands, they aren't quite there. DeLorean on the other hand really have the swagger and attitude of a real rock n roll band. If Friday night was anything to go by, nothing is done half-heartedly when it comes to these guys playing their rock.
From the first song onwards, I - and many others I spoke to that night - was hooked!
I really enjoyed Knocking on Heaven's Door - everyone does it and everyone who does, makes this beautiful song sound boring, BUT this was a real treat, made especially beautiful by the singer's haunting singing during the verses and then ramping up for the Axl W. Rose parts in the chorus! Rock on!
The band seemed to get stronger and stronger as they went on, finishing the first half of their gig with a brilliant version of The Boys are Back in Town - which had some wicked guitar work and outstanding vocals - As a HUGE Bon Jovi fan I happened to notice that the singer is performing the very little-known Bon Jovi version of the song (which in my opinion is one of the better versions), so extra marks for that in my eyes!
There was a break and then the band started again, hurling straight into One Vision by Queen - WOW The entire crowd was blown away, the singer who was out of sight, suddenly exploded onto the stage and gave a vocal and visual performance which Fred himself would have been proud of! Music wise, the song was bang on - the Keyboard player is nothing short of perfect. The bass felt thumping and solid, the guitar work again was perfect and the drums.. Well I'll come onto that a little later.
There was another Queen song after this, but I can't recall which one - either We Will Rock You or I Want it All, but it was a bit different - a Delorean take on a classic perhaps? It featured a mind-boggling guitar-solo during which the guitarists fingers were just a blur - absolutely bloody brilliant!
A few more songs later, the band played Live and Let Die - Wow (again!), this was really good, had people up and dancing around and the band really rocked out!
Another song that really stuck in my mind was Jump by Van Halen - I've heard only a small handful of bands attempt to play this and it always pees me off because a) NONE of them can play the keyboard parts properly, and b) NONE of them can play the guitar solo properly (I'm also a Van Halen fanboy I'm afraid!). I must admit that when this song began I started feeling a little downhearted. However I needn't have - the keyboard was PERFECT, the solo was PERFECT, the very drums were PERFECT, the Bass and singing was PERFECT - marvelous work!
My favourite moment of the night HAD to be Rebel Yell (by the amazing Billy idol). Oh My word - I thought the place would explode. I have had the pleasure of seeing Billy twice on tour and this version give even Mr Idol a run for his money. The singer even did the Billy Idol live adlibs after the solo! The crowd were shouting and screaming along as loud as they could and during these 5 minutes, I felt the hand of rock touch my soul... ;).
Criticisms? Ok, well there was some feedback now and then but it's live and the pub is not the largest of places, so that can be forgiven.
The acoustic song near the end of the night needed to be earlier on, it was in danger of killing the mood. Great cover version, but in this reviewer's humble opinion, I'm not sure about it at all - maybe the full electric version yes, but this was a real buzz kill for me.
A handful of the songs are a bit clichéd and 'safe' - a band like this doesn't need to play safe songs, they need to be pushing the limits with the immense talent they have, they do themselves an injustice by playing safe. A feeling which was echoed by many at the bar that night; who wants to see the same songs just performed by different bands week in, week out?
Now... The musicians - I'm an ex drummer so I enjoy paying attention to other musicians at gigs!
Drums - as an ex-drummer (for 19 years - before I got married...), I was blown away, this bloke is THE best drummer in the local area, and if anyone can prove otherwise, I will eat my hat. That's it, nothing more to say. Phenomenal.
Keyboards - WOW - the sounds and the playing were amazing - I especially liked the custom intro's for some of the songs - clearly this is a man who treats playing the keyboard as an art. His attention to detail is super!
Bass - as a former drummer, I know how integral a good bass player is to a band, and this guy didn't let the side down, solid and driving basslines throughout, holding everything together with the drums.
Guitars - Anyone remember the old shed guitarists from the mid 1980s? Well, if you close your eyes, this guy comes pretty damn close, really tearing up the fretboard and squeezing as many notes as he can - where needed - he amazingly switches with ease though from this to soulful blues and to sweet, tasteful solos on different numbers. One criticism though, everyone else in the band was a joy to watch, and although the guitar playing was brilliant, he doesn't move much - if at all. A few moments felt awkward where the singer tried to interact with him and the guitarist didn't really get into it.
Singer - Great presence, great rock voice, and seems to really give it his all onstage, sweat visibly dripping from him, yet he never stops! His voice is very powerful and he really seems to put feeling into every song. Seems to have a good rapport with the band and looks like he enjoys what he does immensely. I had a chat with him after the gig and he seemed a very pleasant chap too!
Overall, an excellent night! A couple of points to maybe take on board:.
- Guitarist needs to be more visual.
- Get rid of some of those every-band songs - you don't need them!
- Get on the scene more - I want to see you again!
If you guys need a manager or any help with stuff, please drop me a line.
Keep on rockin all over the world!
Neil.
