The Farmer's Boy, St Albans [Pub]
I have had some of my happiest moments dancing to Pat and the Butchers (including all gigs at the Farmers boy)
They have been part of our journey. I proposed to Gill in the middle of them playing Dakota (our favourite song) with all our friends singing “Take a look at Gill now”, which Julie helped organise . When we finally got married there was only one band for us. The charismatic Julie was the perfect wedding MC giving shout outs to all the people and groups we wanted mentioned. She moved through the crowd like a force of nature whooping up excitement and happiness levels. I can only eulogise about these wonderful people. Their performance on the night was incredible. Our wedding guests old and young loved them. Wayne commented “What a fun band with great personality, that not only sound great but grab you and pull you into that party mood”. Tony on drums, Ham on bass and Andrew, Seb and Keith on guitar never let you down and sound really tight. Liz gushed, “They are effervescent. They lift the crowd and keep you going all night”. Julie liaised with me in the months ahead of the wedding, improving all our playlists and requests. We asked for Dakota twice and we got it. Basically they are the sexiest band out there and they make you feel sexy. Oh, we also requested “You sexy thing”. If you want a wedding band , you cannot do better than Pat and the Butchers. Love ‘em to bits xxxDavid Falvey, Friday 10 September 2021
Wow Dave, what an awesome review! Your journey, proposal and wedding are up there with some of our best gigs and vibes.
We have felt honoured to be a part of it, and now lifelong friends!
We look forward to playing Dakota for the two of you for years to come and wish you all the happiness together ❤️
Thank you for your kind words x
The Christmas Party gig at the Farmers Boy co-insided with Ros the landlady's birthday and was set to be a good night with the Faith Stealers playing. Ros and Doug sold their house and flat 10 years ago to run a music pub and have successfully had different types of music during the week/weekends encompassing solo artists to bands, newcomers to experienced professionals, open mic to quiz nights and disco - The Farmers covers it all.
With an extended licence and open till 2.0 am and the Faith Stealers playing a longer set than usual (8.30-11.30) what more could you want!
Fronted by Gary with a great voice and doing clever things on the guitar, mischievous Martin (Keith Moon) on drums, good humoured Ray on bass and the multi-talented Steve Oakman on keyboard the sound was excellent. Playing 60s well known songs Kinks to Zombies and particularly covering the mod era to punk, Small Faces - Gary even sounds like Steve Marriot - to The Who, The Jam to Paul Weller and on to the present. Great renditions of Gloria and Down In The Tube Station and entertaining Gary had us all singing along to All Or Nothing (the girls first followed by the boys!) and on to The Jam's poetic English Rose. A well chosen collection of Who numbers followed with brilliant versions of Wont Get Fooled Again through to the end finishing with My Generation. They played far too many songs to list here!
Everyone was enjoying themselves and it was a great atmosphere and a really good turn out. The time passed so quickly and it was 11.30 before we knew it and we were all expecting the music to finish but no - the Faith Stealers played on until 12.0 which we all appreciated as they had only had two short breaks during the entire night. Gary sang his heart out to such a vast array of songs and of course no one wanted it to end!
Many thanks to Ros for booking the Faith Stealers and to her and Doug for organising such a good night for all us music lovers to enjoy such great music! Well done to the Faith Stealers - keep playing!

Thanks a lot Rose, you've made Ray smile again!
I had my haircut this evening and my barber asked what music I liked, I like a variety but I love Bob Dylan. He recommended I go see Zimmerman at the Farmers Boy in St Albans...two hours after my haircut. I decided to live dangerously and headed out solo to check them out. I haven’t been so happy in months, I danced, drank good ale and enjoyed great Dylan covers that filled my heart with joy. Music should make you feel and I felt immensely, outstanding musicians, fantastic front man, I was too young to see Dylan, but it was so good I danced like it was a different era and felt a joy for music that moved me physically and emotionally, if you are a Dylan fan, treat yourself to a Zimmerman gig, simply incredible, I will see them again and again and they may even keep me sane. Thank you guys.

Ros, thank you so much for your applause. We in turn love the Farmers Boy. A really lovely pub with a most appreciative audience. It's always great when the crowd won't let you off stage even though the clock says we must. Thanks for having us and we look forward to returning next year.
Andrea, Pip and Dave.
Great gig last night. Top musicians and a fantastic singer with a perfect voice for this genre. Brought back memories of my youth and the fantastic dance music around at that time. If you love your soul, Motown, funk and disco from the 70s, you will love Huggy Flares!
