Glyn Devey and The Station [Covers - various, 4 piece]

I celebrated my 35th Birthday Party at the Misty Moon as I had heard a covers band would be playing. The band were excellent, upbeat, fun and interactive with the audience. They started the evening with classic reggae hits One Love, Big Brown Eyes etc) and then played a mix of rock and roll and 80's pop and rock tunes and the Blues Brother hit Shake Your Tail Feather was a massive hit with the crowd. Most of the songs were chosen by the audience and the band transitioned smoothly through the songs. There was also a dance off competition to the song Footloose. The atmosphere was upbeat and lively and everyone was dancing. It was one of my most fun birthdays and I never left the dance floor while the band were playing. Thank you so much for an awesome evening guys! Pen

Sunday 7 July 2013Thank you for the review Penny, hope you had a great birthday! "Big Brown Eyes" I think that's "Sweat" by Inner Circle. Look forward to seeing you at other Devestation gigs. Regards Glyn.

First time I have seen this band but not the last. These guys managed to create an atmosphere like no other band I have yet seen. The ladies love them. The interaction with the audience is first class with people invited up to be backing vocals and impromptu dance competitions. The range of songs were highly original but still commercial. Very few breaks as one track moved seamlessly into another. Excellent value and highly recommended.

Sunday 16 June 2013Hi Anthony, thank you very much for the positive feedback, we had a great night and looking forwards to seeing you again at future gigs. Kindest Regards Glyn.

I caught the second half of DeveStation's set at the Goat, having seen a few other bands around Hemel Hempstead that evening. The Goat itself is so much better as a venue since the renovation, now somewhere you might actually want to go for the evening, rather than somewhere you HAVE to go to see a band (although the gents' loos are still a liability).
I hadn't seen DeveStation play a "normal" gig before, though I have been to a couple of the jam nights at the Golden Eagle, so I was quite curious; the PR on the band's Facebook page is extremely self-confident!
My first observation on arrival was that the Goat was really rocking; helped by a couple of birthday parties and quite a few ladies of all ages wanting to dance themselves into oblivion at all costs. The band, as they assert, was indeed highly professional and slick. The sound was great, clean and well-balanced, not suffering from the usual pub "drums-too-loud-can't-hear-the-singer" affliction. Audience interaction from Glyn was excellent, with various ladies being invited up on stage to participate, pushing poor old Liam up against the wall, where he continued to deliver immaculate funky bass lines despite the gross invasion of personal space.
The set was brilliantly chosen for the audience, all songs that everyone, particularly the dancing ladies knew, could sing along to and more importantly dance to. I really enjoyed it all, even though some of the numbers wouldn't necessarily be my first choice of listening. I particularly liked "Play That Funky Music White Boy", which lived up to its own imperative, and "Walk This Way" which I remember clearly as a big Run-DMC fan from back in the day. Both were played confidently, energetically and cleanly and with full commitment from all the band members.
Deano and Luke make a great rhythm session, that could step into any band, and Glyn, of course is a consummate musician. They actually look like a band, rather than three musicians. They make the perfect covers-dance band... So they do indeed live up to their own PR! Also, having met Glyn and Deano before I know they are really nice guys, so I would bet would be easy to deal with if you wanted to book them.
Negatives... very few. Sometimes Glyn's guitar sound was a bit thin and fizzy and got lost in the mix, and it would be nice to have some harmony vocals from the other guys. But I was almost certainly the only person who noticed, and certainly no-one cared. Overall, a big, big impact, the perfect party band!
