19 Sep 2016Boot Inn, Bracknell Problems
My band, "Kindred Spirit" gigged at the Boot Inn, Bracknell on Saturday 17th September. I had been unable to get through on the phone all week (engaged tone) and assumed the pub was busy (as another band had recommended this pub as a good place to play). I had sent posters etc. via the pub's facebook page (as they hadn't given me an email address). On arrival at the pub on the night of the gig (17th September), I was told that the previous managers had "done a runner" 11 weeks previously and that they knew we were "in the book" as coming and we could still play but they wouldn't be able to pay us what had previously been agreed. The temporary manager said she had tried to contact me but the number in the book hadn't worked (our contact details are really easy to find on the web everywhere by the way). She said the Boot pub had changed its land line number and gave me this number (I haven't tested it yet, as it is a bit early):-01344 531185There were no posters up or any indication that a band was going to be playing. There were very few people in, the pub had no draft beers available and the toilets were not in a nice state. She said that the maximum they could pay was £180 and I said that would be OK. Some of our band travel from quite a distance to gig so I thought it was best to play, as they would be about to arrive, and I would cover the shortfall. We played for about 45mins and the young barman said the pub manager had decided to close early (11pm), so we decided to reduce the break time. A little later, the barman said they wanted us to finish at 10.30pm - so we didn't take a break at all. We seemed to go down well with the few people that came, or who happened to be in and stayed. After we finished, the bar man said the manager had left and she had instructed him to only pay us £100 (as they had closed early).Anyway, I thought I should let bands know what happened to us - so they can try and contact the new manager and decide what would be best for them! I was going to contact the pub chain for this pub (to let them know what had happened) but it seems to be a "family run country pub", with no chain owner.
