The Outliars [Rock & Pop Covers, 5 piece]

Applause, Applause to The Outliars for a great gig at Tom Tiddlers Tavern on Saturday night. We had a great time listening to a great band in a great music venue....severe loss of voice on Sunday morning from singing along with you all....great fun! Can't wait to see you again! Thank you. Pat, Sue and Lance.

Monday 9 June 2014Hi Pat, Sue and Lance. Thank you for coming along and for your applause. We had a great time too and will be back at the Tom Tiddlers Tavern in a couple of months or so - watch this space...

Having worked on the same bill as The Outliars before, I couldn't resist the opportunity to relax and see them in my local pub. Yes, they are a covers band, but they don't always pick the obvious tracks, so I found myself grinning quite a lot as they plundered music from my Uni days some of which, I probably hadn't heard since, er, my Uni days!
They have a great balance to their sound; the instrumentalists do not seem to be trying to out-volume each other, as if so often the case with pub bands. So, whilst they are at a decent volume (which all live music should be!), the detailed arrangements are crystal clear and allow the vocals to be heard. And that is just as well; the female lead vocalist has a terrific and individual voice, not like the 'karaoke' lead singers all too prevalent in many pub bands today. It does real justice to The Pretenders' tracks ("Back on the Chain Gang" is a real gem ), and is rocking on "Summer of 69" and belting on "Sex on Fire".
They created a real party atmosphere, to the extent of donning costumes to celebrate Halloween. At least, I assume they were costumes; if not, they are not as normal as I thought. "Monster Mash" and "Ghost Busters" were very mush appreciated by the partying crowd.
Pick of the night for me though, was The Vapors' "Turning Japanese". Never thought I would hear that live again, and they do the original justice. So much so that I spent the next few days humming it over and over again.
I have seen many bands at this pub, and it can be difficult to create an atmosphere. The Outliars did so with room to spare. Terrific gig. My kind of band!

Wednesday 29 February 2012Thanks Martin for your very kind review. I am glad that our music choice is to your liking and reminds you of you time at uni. We really enjoyed the gig at the 3 Tuns Ashwell and will be back there on 12th May. Maybe we will play together again some time?

I want to say a huge thank-you to The Outliars for their fabulous contribution to Pudsey's Party. So many people were asking 'Who's the great band?' and it was particularly sweet to say quite truthfully, 'Oh, just some more amazing local talent...'. You really were superb, and helped us not only to finish on a high but to make what looks like being just over £3k.THANK YOU. And get that bookings diary ready...

Monday 22 November 2010Sarah, Thankyou for your lovely comments - It was a great night and we really enjoyed playing especially for such a good cause.

I saw The Outliars play at the recent Harvest fair event in Steeple Morden. What a great band, playing a mix of covers with a bit of a difference but all well known. Nice to hear a change from the normal run of the mill stuff. Having said all of that, there were a couple of tracks that I might change but even they were good.
This band are obviously very talented with a great female singer. Their finish on the Pretenders track Middle of the Road was so tight it was though the power had suddenly been switched off!
I would not hesitate in seeing this band again (and even pay - and that is saying something). I hope to see a few more gigs on this page from them soon.
Sean.

Monday 12 October 2009Glad you enjoyed the show and you comments Sean. We really enjoy that Pretenders track and also like the ending. I think we will be there again next year so come back. Keep an eye out here for more of our gigs and come along and introduce youself to us.

The outliars played at our private function in front of about 300 people. They were excellent. A wonderful selection of music. Many old favourites. They are obviously a very talented and accomplised group of musicians. Thanks guys. Hope you can do it again next year.
