Western Union Jive Club, Tavistock

Last night was a tiny pub in Chessington, tonight was a huge hall in Devon...! We had been invited to play for the folks at the Western Union Jive Club in Tavistock... Our first visit to this venue and we knew even before we played the first bar that this was going to be special and how right we were... A high stage with drum riser at the back was the perfect setting for us to be at our best. The sound check was challenging with high ceilings and echo everywhere but once the hall was full the acoustics sounded fantastic.

When we got there it was explained to us that the crowd liked a few strollers and a steady jive evening, NO boppers...! Well, it's not the first time we have heard that so, as instructed, we set off with a few steady jivers followed by a couple of strollers and then dropped a moderate bopper in. It went down a storm, so much so that at the break we got asked to step it up in the second half and don't hold back :-) We have to be honest, that was the plan anyway, it's very rare for us to misjudge a crowd that much and so a six minute bopper at the end of the night seemed, to us, to be the right way to end :-)

When I say end, I actually mean to play a two song encore, followed by another two and then a finale...! All that after overrunning by ten minutes meant the second forty-five minute set went way past an hour but we loved every minute of it - and it seemed the public did as well. If we're not invited back we know we got it wrong but we're hoping to see you all again next year :-)

The Shy Horse, Chessington

Well who would have thought... The Shy Horse in Chessington - what a lovely little pub...! Our first visit to this up and coming music venue, very difficult to set the sound but set it we did :-) A fantastic crowd of enthusiastic supporters who listened and danced and sang and cheered... it couldn't have been much better for a debut. It was a fr cry from our regular venues with polished dance floors and a few hundred dancers but those who were there made up for that was missing with their enthusiasm :-)

Thanks to Emma for inviting us and we hope the pub goes from strength to strength and becomes a local hotspot for good music - we wish you all the luck.

Austin Sports & Social Club, Longbridge

28 Feb 2017Austin Sports & Social Club, Longbridge

The Austin Sports & Social Club in Longbridge is fast becoming one of our favourite distant venues... The people turning up to see us are becoming more and more, we were pretty much at capacity with the dance floor being full in every number form start to finish. I guess we must be doing something right :-)

We are booked for a couple more gigs here in 2017 so keep a look out and lets's hope for a capacity cored on our next visit :-) We would love to hear that you couldn't get in, has that ever happened here...? Not that we don't want you to come but that would absolutely mean we have as big a following in the area as we do at home - you're not far off, can we make it happen...?!?!?!?!

Scarborough Spa Complex, Scarborough

I'm sure no one knew just how far Scarborough Spa Complex in Scarborough was...! We set off with six hours to spare and need all of that in the end after suffering a 70mph, outside lane blow out...! Not really what you need to settle your nerves and get you in the mood for an afternoon of fun. The closer we got to Scarborough the worse the weather got :-( We got a call from Stuart (the organiser) asking how far out we were as they were going to be shutting the coast road soon and we would not be able to get to the venue. We were fine, by five minutes :-)

And we are so pleased we were :-) The venue was amazing, the crowd (at four in the afternoon) were a little subdued but we got them up and we seemed to go down well. I guess the proof will be if we get asked back ;-)

We took a slow drive home (no spare) and arrived safely back at just gone midnight...!
