The Zimmermen [Bob Dylan Tribute Band, 6 piece]

I had my haircut this evening and my barber asked what music I liked, I like a variety but I love Bob Dylan. He recommended I go see Zimmerman at the Farmers Boy in St Albans...two hours after my haircut. I decided to live dangerously and headed out solo to check them out. I haven’t been so happy in months, I danced, drank good ale and enjoyed great Dylan covers that filled my heart with joy. Music should make you feel and I felt immensely, outstanding musicians, fantastic front man, I was too young to see Dylan, but it was so good I danced like it was a different era and felt a joy for music that moved me physically and emotionally, if you are a Dylan fan, treat yourself to a Zimmerman gig, simply incredible, I will see them again and again and they may even keep me sane. Thank you guys.

Thursday 11 January 2018What an absolutely delightful review. Thank you, Benedict, for taking a chance on coming to see us and for letting us know how much you enjoyed the evening. See you again soon I hope..

Hi you talented Crewe. Thank you so much for making my birthday party so special. I was expecting to go to Dalston and was totally blown away to see you in a cellar in Camden, joined by friends and family. I can't believe that my son's, sister and family organised the party for me; they are amazing. Your great set made my night, as usual you set the scene with energy, talent and musical excellence. Everybody had a ball and I hope you enjoyed it too. A fabulous, fabulous night. Thank you and my wonderful son's, sister and family, so very much. It was a night to remember always! Pauline

Wednesday 12 March 2014Thanks for that Pauline.. We all had a great evening.. See you soon.. Xx

I won't mince my words: I am not a fan of Bob Dylan. Just as I find Neil Young a little 'whiney' in his vocal delivery (sorry!), I find Dylan a little 'moany'. However, (as with Mr Young) Bob quite rightly holds a place in the musical universe as one of the best songwriters that ever put pen to paper.
It's testimony to The Zimmermen then that they can hold me captivated all night - or afternoon in this case. Cavan's enthusiasm in every song he sings is totally infectious and even the mellow songs are delivered with equal intensity.
The band are all seasoned musicians and every song is played with style and feeling. It is only when I hear these guys deliver Bob's finest that I truly appreciate the powerful simplicity of the material. For me, the songs suddenly come to life when played and sung in such an impassioned way. You can tell that Cavan is a true fan of Mr Zimmerman's work and he remains faithful to the meaning of every song as he delivers faultless renditions of some of Bob's best-known (and sometimes less known) masterpieces.
Sometimes it's easy to forget just how many great songs Bob Dylan wrote - until you hear The Zimmermen! They're all there: 'Maggie's Farm', 'Hurricane', 'Mr Tambourine Man', 'Like A Rolling Stone' ... I could go on, but there are simply too many to list here. It doesn't stop there though. There are plenty of interesting (and fantastic) 'other' songs to keep the true 'Bob fans' happy and educate the numpties like me who have inexplicably 'never got' what Mr D was all about.
So, thank you to Cavan and 'the band' (big UP to Will the drummer by the way) for opening my eyes (and ears) to an artist I had always overlooked before.

Monday 23 July 2012Thank you Howard. It's always a surprise (a pleasant one!) to see you pop up at one of our gigs. I really appreciate you taking the time to write a review.

Sunday 20th May 2012 The Horns Pub , Watford. Thank you Zimmerman for a fanatic afternoon. 4 hours of pure high class entertainment at the Horns in Watford. Almost a week later I still have Rango (Freeze) & "Forever Young" still ringing in my ears. Great music that is pure Dylan yet no replica, interesting varied and so very entertaining. Along with the the pure gold of Shanes wise cracks ("There is still no cure for the common birthday") are only trumped by his thumping acoustic guitar. Even with a new drummer onboard the Zimmermen gave us a dazzling and addictive performance which most of us did not want the evening to end. Thank you again guys - I am really looking forward to seeing perform again soon.
