!daft! are GODS... worship them! !daft! on Sat 8th Mar 08
!daft! are AWESOME - I don't say that merely 'cos I think of Graeme as a mate...if I walked into a pub where they were performing and I saw !daft!, I'd think the same...they are absolutely utterly completely and totally FAB
Musically the band are excellent - far better than the picture mere words can paint. Real quality musicians.
Graeme himself is amazing... the boy can sing... not just sing a bit, I mean he can sing... really SING. He's got an impressive vocal range and more than that he is everything a frontman should be - he has charisma, energy, style, wit, humour and an instinctive understanding of his audience... he takes the band a stage further from being just a group of quality musicians to a group of quality musicians who comprise a band with the "wow factor"
Their repetoire has grown more diverse over the years - everything from Brian Adams to Oasis stopping off at The Fratelli's, The Automatic, Green Day, Mika, The Manic Street Preachers, The Strokes, Guns'n'Roses, Led Zeppelin, Lynryrd Skynryd, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Undertones, Blur, Queen, Michael Jackson and The Monkees on the way (and if I'm really lucky they even do Metallica )
I went to the Rising Sun gig on Saturday and had a really good time. I'm a miserable, overweight, 40 something dyed-in-the-wool metalheaded, sad git with a bad back, but !daft! managed to get me on my feet, jumping up and down and singing (I know, it's a terrifying thought) along with loads of other people both young and old, of all creeds and colours...we were all having that rare thing - A genuinely good time.
!daft! really know how to give their audience that "feel good" factor... I was watching people leaving after the gig and without exception everyone had bloody big smiles on their faces.
So, "covers band" they may be... but they're so much more too...

Many Happy Returns! AbaKus on Sat 14th Apr 07
This was a second gig for the band at this venue. Shouts of anticipation at the announcement of the following number were swiftly followed by cheers of appreciation as the band took us by storm from one masterly performance to the next.
Each of their two sets were perfectly paced and audience reaction to the tight delivery of electrifying vocals, thrilling guitar riffs and right-on percussion, was never less than ecstatic throughout.
This truly is a covers band with a difference, imparting a unique feel to every single number. The inclusion of original material was very well received by the delighted crowd and, hopefully, will lead to more in the future. I have had the pleasure of seeing this band several times (perhaps that says something?) and the quality of their musical and visual performance, surpasses every expectation, every time - for all-encompassing audience inclusion and great entertainment, covering both contemporary music and well-loved classics... COUNT ON ABAKUS!

Rockin' at The Rising Sun The Purple Zeppelins on Fri 31st Mar 06
The audience in The Rising Sun were waiting with bated breath on Friday night, just to see what this band were all about.
With a name like The Purple Zeppelins, these guys had a lot to live up to, and believe me, they did it.
A 5 piece line up consisting of: Dave - Vocals, Gareth - Guitar, Richard - Bass Guitar, Dennis - Keyboards & Ashley - Drums. Oh! and not forgetting the all important sound engineer Mike, these guys punched out two great sets.
Although none of its members look anything like the originals, and to their credit, they don't even try to, their sound is pretty close.
Starting with a couple of Whitesnake numbers, Here I Go Again, and Fool For Your Lovin', just to warm the audience up a little, they then cracked into the true nature of the band, good ole' Led Zepp & Deep Purple. Cranking out classic numbers, such as Black Night, Hush, Communication Breakdown, Stairway To Heaven etc, with awsomely good vocals, superb guitar solos, and great keyboard, bass & drum work, by the end of the night these guys had the crowd eating out of their hands.
And finally, with unbelievable versions of Whole Lotta' Love and Smoke On The Water as an encore, they blew everyone away.
To summarise, a very good rock covers band, with a great overall sound, and superb vocals.
If I owned a pub/club, I would have no hesitation in booking them - I can't believe that larger venues haven't snapped them up already - good luck for the future guys.

|
|
| Print 3 flyers per A4 page, with marked cutting guides. Hint: setting your start date to the first of a month, and your end date to the last day of a month, gives a neat heading on your flyer, e.g. setting 1 May 2008 and 31 Aug 2008 as the start and end dates will produce the heading: 'MAY - AUGUST 08'. Try it! You can also set the font size to a decimal value (e.g. 9.3) to make the gigs fit exactly onto the page. | |
